Metal Gear Solid 1.
1.Metal Gear Solid is an action/stealth game. In this boss battle I have chosen the boss is a gloomy
and freighting villain so before the fight starts you get this gloomy echo music that is quite scary. I
think the sounds and the music for this fight were all made in a studio with technology and I don’t
think they used instruments. They will have used music software and certain music software like
reaper but more professional programs that cost a lot of money, to create the soundtrack for this
fight and sound effects. They will also have done voice acting for the characters which will have been
recorded in a studio.
2.I think that they have defiantly used echo as much as they could to create the gloomy, scary and
empty atmosphere. The room you fight the boss in everything echo’s in there to the voices from the
objects. They will have also layered effects over each other. I think they may have also had to change
the pitch on some sounds to stop them from contrasting with the gloomy and scary atmosphere
they create. When you listen to this with a headset it sounds so much better they really took
advantage of anyone using a headset for example around 18 seconds into the video you start to hear
a start of dashing sound in each earphone which made me feel like there was someone next to me
or behind me. I also think they would have put a bit of distortion and echo onto the voice’s of the
character’s especially psycho mantis the boss who sounds like he is wearing a gas mask.
3. For this certain fight the music was perfect. You seen the boss thought out the game as this scary
creepy character and he came across as that and much more in the boss fight. Before you enter the
room where you fight you walk down a corridor where you start to hear the music and you can feel
the emptiness and gloominess of the music and you just know the boss fight is coming. When you
finally meet the boss psycho mantis you know that the music and effects go with his character
completely. Also the voice acting for the character psycho mantis couldn’t be better he sounds so
creepy and scary like an insane genius. Combine his voice and the gloomy echo back ground music
and you just feel the emptiness and creepiness. This boss fight scared people and made them
frightened with the things psycho mantis did and the sound track along with the effects.
When the fight finally starts you get the usual boss soundtrack which is fast paced and edgy and it
usually gets you going but for this fight they add a voice with echo into the soundtrack which keeps
the gloomy creepy soundtrack there. For this fight you won’t feel like any other boss fight because
you can feel scared of the boss when he starts messing with your controller and your TV screen goes
blank. It also seems like everything in the room has an echo with keeps everything creepy and
empty. For a lot of the people which have played this game this is one of their most memorable boss
battles ever and it’s not hard to see why. This fight can leave fans feeling something they may have
never felt with a game before and for this boss the sound could not have been better and I don’t
think the fans could of asked for more.
