2. Bike To Breathe: a pilot to produce calm through the use of already held habits
3. the philosophy to increase calm in a Stanford undergraduate’s day, simply refocus their thoughts while biking… focus on destination focus on breath
4. design six days one bike ride each day inhale after a self-selected number of pedals exhale after that same number of pedals repeat until destination is reached
5. design (cont.) one reminder text sent per day “ Bike to Breathe! What is one thing you enjoy about the breathing exercises? In five words or less, text back what you think so far! Enjoy the day!” one text-back asked for per day “ This is more than 5 words, but for just a few seconds my mind is entirely clear!” a feedback survey after the pilot ends

8. the day three experiment I did not ask for any text back confirmations. “ Bike to breathe. Really pay to the simple act of riding a bike.” 6:41 PM But, I still received responses: Did it! I took 20 breaths today. I hypothesize that this is due to habit building itself.
10. lessons Every single response elicited a positive reaction. Do not teach something new. Simply refocus acts that people do naturally. Text back design is the key to interaction.
