all the changes made the game less enjoyable, and the original incarnation of the game was likely
the best. Galaxies was accessible to a lot of players because it takes place in the same time period as
the films. To make way for newer MMOs, galaxies was shut down in 2011.
Today's big Star Wars MMO is obviously Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR). Unlike Galaxies,
this game is set 1000's of years before the events in the movies. Although the game initially required
a monthly fee, this is not true anymore. Around a year after its release, the game became free to
play, although free players do face a number of constraints. Within its category, it's probably one of
the greatest games out at this time, and it is unique for quite a few reasons. SWTOR is set in the
same general time frame as KOTOR, so enthusiasts of the earlier game will find the environment
somewhat familiar.
