Just Punishment
The punishment should suit
the crime, taking into account
all factors of the victim(s) and
offender(s)
Deterrence
Affects others in society
and discourages them from
committing crimes. Also
discourages offender to
reoffend.
Rehabilitation
Aimed at reducing
the general level of
crime in the
community and
enhancing public
safety
Denunciation of
offenders conduct
To show the offender
and society that the
behaviour was
inappropriate
Protection
Protection of the
community is
only guaranteed
by
imprisonment.
The worst the
crime, the longer
the sentence
