 The likely audience for this text is young
teenage girls, who like mainstream music.
They may also listen to artists such as
Rihannah and Lady Gaga.
 I chose this text as I think it is an example of
a stereotypically post-modern text in many
ways, such as the huge amount of
intertexuality, the bricolage and the fact
that surface appearance was obviously
more important than content.

3.  The video was created after the song featured
in the film ‘The Pink Panther’, which the singer
had a role in. This rusults in direct clips from the
film and a very pink theme in general.
 There is no coherent story line or message
behind the text, only clips of the star with no
meaning behind them, just entertainment or
marketing depending on your views.

4.  Bricolage; this is evident in the way that features
from the genres of cartoon programme, film and
music videos are mixed.

5.  Intertextuality: this music video has this in much
more obvious ways than some.

 Incorporation of the original cartoon
 other musicians in the music video
 it is stated that a very well known music video
producer made this text
 Jameson would include that this is an example of
how nothing postmodern is original and how it is
this way due to capitalist culture. He would assume
that the cartoon has been reworked as a way to
make money.

6.  This is used a lot with no meaning or intention
behind it. Purely for entertainment.

7.  The outfits worn are very extreme, lots of pink,
quite revealing and things that ‘normal’ people
would be judged for wearing.
 This creates a desirable impression on the
young audience, none of which are ‘real’, the
star would not wear these outfits day-to-day, it
is like extreme dress up.
 Also this audience will be more
concerned with the appearance
of the text than trying
to read into it.

8.  Revealing Outfits... Lyotard would not
oppose these ‘costume’ choices it is
simply a good example of how in
postmodern texts there is no longer
expected to be a unified set of values
among the audience. As not long ago it
would have been seen as ‘wrong’ to show
a woman in revealing clothes for no
purpose other than to be a sex figure, at
least the person doing this would not be
seen a respectable role model, however
today Beyonce is by a lot of people.

9. The star of the video looks directly into the camera,
reminding viewers that she is aware that she is being
filmed. Also, the baurdering that Hype Williams
(the well known music video producer) is
renound for including in his work brings
attention to the fact that the scenes are
created.
The clips from the film do not fit with the rest of
the text and make the bricolage effect more
noticeable.
Also the inclusion of a cartoon
at all removes any realism.

10.  This is the most obvious of the postmodern
features there is no message – the subject
of the song is letting men watch you
dance!
 Though there are many different locations
and styles of shot, the only thing that
happens in these shots is dancing, the
occasional clip of the film is for marketing
purposes and the mise en scene is based
around the colour of the cartoon character
featured. . . No Depth.

There is almost no referent to the
modernist era.
