  Five Years and Going Strong!

L
ooking	to	be	a	part	of	something	big	and	rewarding?	City
College	Broadcasting	Club	has	just	what	you’re	looking	for!
It	all	started	five	years	ago	when	a	group	of	eager
broadcasting	students	came	together	in	what	would	soon	turn
into	tradition.	I	guess	you	can	call	it	“the	light	at	the	end	of	the
tunnel,”	a	journey	of	what	broadcast	communications	is	all	about.
Fortunately	for	me	the	past	two	years	have	been	very
beneficial.	Each	year	it	is	our	goal	to	travel	the	‘world’	twice;
one	out	of	State	trip	and	the	other	is	usually	closer	to	home.
No	two	trips	are	the	same;	each	is	very	unique.	For	example,
this	past	April	the	broadcasting	club	hopped	on	a	flight	to	Atlanta
to	tour	CNN World Headquarters,	Crawford Communications
                                                                        Entire group visiting Crawford Communications
and	V-103 (CBS)	radio	station.
These	are	three	completely	different	areas	in	the	field	of
communications,	but	each	tour	left	a	different	impression	on	all
nineteen	of	us.

Aside	from	the	fact	that	Atlanta	is	a	wonderful	city,	we	all	left
with	the	reassurance	that	no	matter	where	we	may	end	up	after
City	College,	there	is	a	place	for	us	all	in	the	marketplace.	With
vast	knowledge	and	hands-on	experience,	I	can	honestly	say
that	each	and	every	one	of	us	can	graduate	today	and	take	our
place	doing	exactly	what	we	came	to	City	College	to	learn.
Thanks	to	the	dynamic	trio	of	our	Department Chair Dr. Alvan
Lewis	and	his	two	other	Instructors, Dr. Paul van Putten and
Mr. Wayne Rouston.	But	don’t	just	take	my	word	for	it,	one	of

  • 2. Fort Lauderdale Campus News • page 2 Five Years and Going Strong! L ooking to be a part of something big and rewarding? City College Broadcasting Club has just what you’re looking for! It all started five years ago when a group of eager broadcasting students came together in what would soon turn into tradition. I guess you can call it “the light at the end of the tunnel,” a journey of what broadcast communications is all about. Fortunately for me the past two years have been very beneficial. Each year it is our goal to travel the ‘world’ twice; one out of State trip and the other is usually closer to home. No two trips are the same; each is very unique. For example, this past April the broadcasting club hopped on a flight to Atlanta to tour CNN World Headquarters, Crawford Communications Entire group visiting Crawford Communications and V-103 (CBS) radio station. These are three completely different areas in the field of communications, but each tour left a different impression on all nineteen of us. The Broadcasting Club hopped on a flight to Atlanta to tour s CNN World Headquarters, Crawford Communications, and V-103 (CBS) radio station. All aboard At CNN headquarters Aside from the fact that Atlanta is a wonderful city, we all left with the reassurance that no matter where we may end up after City College, there is a place for us all in the marketplace. With vast knowledge and hands-on experience, I can honestly say that each and every one of us can graduate today and take our place doing exactly what we came to City College to learn. Thanks to the dynamic trio of our Department Chair Dr. Alvan Lewis and his two other Instructors, Dr. Paul van Putten and Mr. Wayne Rouston. But don’t just take my word for it, one of our own Sindy Tirado who is scheduled to walk in this year’s graduation has already landed a position at CNN En Español in Atlanta. Way to go Sindy!!!! In other news, we are happy to introduce the club’s newest officials. I am pleased to announce that after three years standing, the Presidential position has finally been awarded to a Students with their tour guide at V-103 (CBS)radio night- time student, Denise Florentino. From the daytime serving as Vice President is Laura Caiazza, Secretary Karen Melendez and Treasurer Maria Vasquez. Good luck ladies!!! Their two Advisors are Christopher Smith and Kelly Cifuentes. You are the leaders of something big and exciting. Strive for the best! Being a part of the new executive is not the only rewarding aspect of the club. Students are encouraged to show off their talents and creative thinking, in exchange for an award or plaque… shall I say.
