Options for Low-Performing Charter Schools
Shortened renewal for the charter – allows CPS to evaluate performance on a more
frequent basis and take further action if necessary.
Renewal with conditions – allows CPS to place additional targets into contract which
need to be met in order to be renewed.
Non-renewal – Allows CPS to non-renew or close a charter school. Can be applied to
a full network or individual campus.
Many charters elect to do their own internal turnaround in advance of their
contract renewal

schools including school rating levels and probation
status
• Potentially move all schools towards performance
