Michael Jackson Trial 2005 Have and Have Not's Presented by Jury Consultation Corporation
Michael Jackson Case at a Glance Pop singer Michael Jackson, 46, faces charges of conspiracy to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion, three counts of committing lewd acts upon a child, attempted lewd acts upon a child, and four counts of administering intoxicating agents to assist in the commission of a felony (Montaldo, 2005). Jackson entered a plea of not guilty to the ten felony counts on April 30, 2004 at Santa Maria, California courthouse (Montaldo, 2005).
MJ’s Characteristics in FavorJurors May Reflect… He is a nurturer and a protector and is prone to what has sometimes been referred to as the "Atlas Syndrome" - namely, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders (Topsynergy, 2003). Michael Jackson assumes responsibilities in his relationships very conscientiously and often takes on more than his share of the troubles as well (Topsynergy, 2003). He is apt to be surrounded by people who rely on him, and though Michael Jackson derives much satisfaction from providing, giving, and being needed, he can also let himself be drained emotionally and/or financially by taking care of other people and not caring sufficiently for himself (Topsynergy, 2003).
Defense attorneys A Defense Attorney WOULD NOTchoose a person for jury who is steady tuned into the news channels on celebrities lifestyles, or heard of all the allegations of the person on trial, or one who has accepted unreliable reports from unnoted reporters. A Defense Attorney WOULD choose persons for jury who: - Persons who DO NOT have children - Men who DO NOT have kids - Men who DO NOT like kids - Men who have kids would see sexual behavior in Jackson as unorthodox Alternative A Woman with children, but defense will direct it at mother for allowing her underage child stay based on what Michael Jackson had formerly been charged with. Notation: The mother of child could have had alternative motives behind having her child/ children stay with a man of high celebrity quota to actually cause a scene based on prior efforts of others.
MJ’s Characteristics AgainstJurors May Reflect… LONELY and wanting to live the young boyhood he never had. In 1993 Jackson was interviewed inside his home by Oprah Winfrey (Montaldo, 2005). Michael Jackson described his child fame as lonely and sad (Montaldo, 2005). He told Oprah, "Well, you don't get to do things that other children get to do, you know, having friends and slumber parties and buddies (Montaldo, 2005). There was none of that for me (Montaldo, 2005). I didn't have any friends when I was little. My brothers were my friends.“ (Montaldo, 2005) It was during this same year that official allegations were made against Michael for the molestation of a 13-year-old boy (Montaldo, 2005). Although Michael went public with his denial of any unlawful relationships with any child, he also decided to settle with the family for close to $20 million (Montaldo, 2005). It was also during this time that Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, married but were divorced less than two years later (Montaldo, 2005)
PROSECUTING attorneys A Defense Attorney WOULD NOTchoose a person for jury who has no clue on what they are serving for, nor knows the identity of the accused, nor who hasn’t been effected personally by child molestation. A Prosecuting Attorney WOULD choose persons for jury who: - Persons who HAVE heard everything in the media (this will give them the benefits of already formed opinions without having heard the case) -Person has strong anger and wants justice served to those who have manipulated children.
Psychological Team in Place Social Scientist- employed by the defense to select the most favorable jurors in an effort to increase chances of acquittal (Arrigo, 2005) (A need to see the ratio of jurors to lead to the acquittal and the true testing of whose really there for justice to prevail versus for the media and to see the accused. This will also create a diverse pool of persons serving on the jury) Child Psychologist to ensure that there are no luring signals to have the children involved in any influential gestures of questions that have them gravitate against the truth. Family Therapist to resolve the conflicts within the families especially once an acquittal has been announced to the families of the children involved. Psychiatrist to deal with the mental health issues effecting those involved throughout the trial (evaluate)
