Three years ago, with the release of the GraphQL specification, Facebook took a fresh stab at the topic of "API design between remote services and applications." The key aspects of GraphQL provide a common, schema-based, domain-specific language and flexible, dynamic queries at interface boundaries. In the talk, I'd like to compare GraphQL and REST and showcase benefits for developers and architects using a concrete example in application and API development, data source and system integration.

As big data technology matures, you’d think there would be more talent available to hire. Although the number of people interested and engaged in the big data world has dramatically increased, job demand is far ahead. Companies like Google or Facebook have access to the best talent — thousands of engineers with PhDs from the best schools, which is why they are able to innovate. How can a company close the skills gap while innovating and creating product advantage? This talk highlights how the right technology can allow you to compete without having an army of PhDs at your disposal. At iPass, we’ve created an environment where our engineers can be empowered to create value without getting bogged down by big data and Ops challenges. As a result, we have been able to more easily recruit internal engineers to our big data team, leveraging their current expertise, while bringing them up to speed on big data projects much faster. Join this talk to learn how you can do the same for your organization.

This session is a deep dive into the modern best practices around asynchronous decoupling, resilience, and scalability that allow us to implement a large-scale software system from the building blocks of events and services, based on the speaker's experiences implementing such systems at Google, eBay, and other high-performing technology organizations. We will outline the various options for handling event delivery and event ordering in a distributed system. We will cover data and persistence in an event-driven architecture. Finally, we will describe how to combine events, services, and so-called 'serverless' functions into a powerful overall architecture. You will leave with practical suggestions to help you accelerate your development velocity and drive business results.

Presented by Marc Schwering, Senior Solutions Architect, MongoDB Modern architectures are moving away from "one size fits all" solutions. The best tools need to be put to the job and given the large amounts of options today, chances are that you’ll end up using MongoDB for your operational workload, as well as Data Processing Systems like Apache Flink or Spark for your high speed data processing needs. When documents or data structures are modeled, there are some key aspects that need to be attended. This takes into consideration the distribution of data nodes, streaming capabilities, performance, aggregation, and queryability options, and how we can integrate the different data processing software that can benefit from subtle but substantial model changes. This session will cover the way how you enhance your architecture using data processing technologies such as Apache Flink and Spark. It will take the audience through the evolution of an app from simple to complex with its architectural requirements . We´ll look into similarities and differences of available technologies and you will walk away with an understanding how to use MongoDB to fulfill more advanced tasks such as personalization through clustering algorithms.

This talk is a case-study on how Apache Spark and the Spark-Solr library is being used at Flipp for driving search relevancy. Flipp is a Toronto based digital flyer and ecommerce company which helps shoppers save money on weekly shopping. Our customers have the option of browsing through our 5+ million products from the brick-and-mortar retailers in North America. This makes Search a very challenging function in our app. How to show the most relevant and personalized search results to users on a query? The talk will focus on using user signals such as Click Through Rate (CTR) and Impressions to increase search relevancy. I will also talk about how PySpark is used to create the Flipp Search ETL platform for collecting user signals and reading product data from Solr. The problem scenario will be explained in which keyword search and basic relevancy algorithms become ineffective when dealing with a large product database. The solutions will cover the following implementations being used at Flipp to drive relevancy: – Utilizing user clicks and popularity data to derive and index normalized item weights to implement the Search Crowd Curation models in Apache Solr – How around 5+ million items are classified into Google Categories in real time using Keras and Apache Spark to power product category curation in Solr. – How to create a crowd sourced query intent categorizer in Solr using the Spark-Solr library. – The use of offline and online metrics at Flipp for evaluating changes in search relevancy. – Future plans for incorporating Kafka-connect in Apache Solr with structured streaming to perform real-time product indexing with Spark-Solr library.

Machine learning applications are typically stitched together from hopes and dreams, shell scripts, cron jobs, home-grown schedulers, snippets of configuration clipped from multiple blog posts, thousands of hard-coded business rules, a.k.a. "our SQL corpus," and a few lines of training and testing code. Organizing all the moving parts into something maintainable and supportive of ongoing development is a challenge most teams have on their TODO list, roadmap, or tech debt pile. Getting ahead of the day-to-day demands and settling into a sane architecture often seems like an unattainable goal. The past several years have seen an explosion of tool-building in the data engineering and analytics area, including in Apache projects spanning the areas of search and information retrieval, job orchestration, file and stream formats, and machine learning libraries. In this talk we will cover our product and development teams' choices of architecture and tools, from data ingestion and storage, through transformations and processing, to presentation of results and publishing to web services, reports, and applications.

Open source software is finally getting the recognition it deserves from analysts like Forrester and Gartner as a disruptive force in IT. Over the years, open source has “climbed up the stack” from operating systems to databases and now to business applications where it has established a firm foothold in the content management space. What should enterprises know about open source content management? Is it really just for Web Content Management (WCM) or does it meet the needs of broader Enterprise Content Management (ECM) deployments? Arelarge enterprises doing big, meaningful content management projects with open source or is its appeal limited to subsets of the market? What about Enterprise 2.0 initiatives? Can you assemble an Enterprise 2.0 solution from open source components? How does it compare with something like Sharepoint?

Break -> inspect -> fix is the Ops workflow for infrastructure stacks of the past. Distributed infrastructure and applications claim to be the new generation, but why is it so much more painful to maintain and troubleshoot them? Much of the pain comes from outdated operational models relying on reactive or, worse yet, manual monitoring and Ops. This talk lays out a proactive Ops model for container infrastructure. By focusing on event monitoring, infrastructure state monitoring, trend analysis, and distributed log collection, a proactive Ops model delivers observability for distributed apps that was not possible before. Using real-world examples from Swarm and Kubernetes, we'll demonstrate the tools used and how we relieve Ops pain in container orchestration.

PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT: This project is mainly used to decrease the time constrain to find all fun and food zones near to the user location. The main advantage of this application is the user can view all the fun and food zones at one place, now we have so many websites and applications which gives information only about food or fun individually. To overcome this disadvantage we developed an application which gives all the details about both fun and food zones based on user specified location so we Entitled this project as ‘FUN AND FOOD’ it is used to provide all fun and food zones near to location specified by the user. The user can view minimum details of nearest fun and food zones and user can also view the details of respective fun and food service provider.
