1. Vertical Farming Team name : Temẓi
Team creator:
Idir Mahrouche
Country : Algeria
2. Our Dream Job
Introduction
By 2050, the world population is
to increase to almost 10 billion.
By 2050 it is predicted that 64.1%
and 85.9% of the developing
and developed world
respectively will be urbanized[1].
Hence, farming lands well get
scarce, this is why we need to
envisage an alternative solution
for farming, which is Vertical
Farming.

3. Our Dream Job
Job Description
Vertical farming is a revolutionary idea that
would enable cities to feed themselves.
It consists on cultivating plants on buildings,
generally on rooftops and even on skyscrapers.
This technique has already begun to attract
farmers to adopt it.
It is uses green energy: solar and wind energy
may be used to feed the plants.
4. Our Dream Job
Let’s watch this short video where Dr Dickson
Despommier is talking about vertical farming :
5. Our Dream Job
In addition to the bunch of engineers with whom a vertical farmer must
interact, it is a must for him to work in close collaboration with the
environmental services and respect law .
In order to achieve this
work, we will be needing
to gather some
technologies together,
and what is special about
them is that most of them
are green technologies;
We are listing some of
them here below :
o Skyscrapers :
These are the building block
of a vertical farm, it is the
structure where will be the
farm set up.
6. Our Dream Job
o Wind turbines :
These will be used
to empower the
structure, because
we will be needing
to electricity to
make the facility
work .
o Grow light :
In addition to the
natural sunlight, an
artificial light might be
needed to augment
the production .
7. Our Dream Job
o Controlled-environment agriculture (CEA):
This is an important tool in vertical farming, it consists on
enabling the farmer to handle crop’s environment to
the desired conditions (temperature, Ph, humidity and
nutrient analysis) .
Vertical farming will have a lot
of positive consequences
among them we can mention :
• Creating job opportunities for
youth .
• Increase crop production .
• No more worries about
whether ( tornados, flooding,
wildfires . . . etc.), or animal
danger (such as grasshoppers
or boars)
• Conservation of land : it is
believed that one unit of a
vertical farm is equivalent to
20 units in its natural state[2].

8. Perfect Education
Being a vertical farmer
would require some skills,
but we don’t have to
hold a bachelor or
masters to be one, all
what we need is skills on
farming, and that’s not
really difficult to acquire,
that’s the most interesting
part of it, its about its
feasibility .
In addition, a company
of vertical farming will
certainty have a need of
electrical engineers
(option : renewable
energies), Biochemists .
9. Perfect Education
Universities should offer an
education compatible
with our future needs, i.e.
Training engineers in big
amounts in fields such as
renewable energies,
biochemistry and
agronomy.
They should offer
internships to students as
well, in vertical farms
where they can see how
these work.
Holding seminars,
conferences, workshops,
and doing other different
methods of awareness like
encouraging youth
movements.
