This document discusses the problem of youth unemployment around the world. Technological changes, economic turmoil, and social problems have all contributed to rising youth unemployment rates in both developed and developing countries. While some economic growth has occurred, many young people have been left behind and unable to participate. Addressing youth unemployment will require new, collaborative solutions like social bonds, learning centers, and peer networks to engage young people in the process. Governments and individuals must work together through mentoring, internships, and teaching to provide opportunities for young people to help solve the problems facing their generation.

2. The cold hard reality is that youth unemployment is
a generational problem on a massive scale.
Technological changes, economic turmoil and
social problems have all contributed to an
increasing rate of youth unemployment around the
world.
This scourge is not just isolated to countries from the
Developing world. The Developed world has some
of the highest rates of youth unemployment
leading to disenfranchisement and disillusionment.
Despite the large amounts of economic growth
seen over the last few decades, a growing amount
of young people around the world have been left
out, unable to share in this growth.

3. Unfortunately the answers to this problem
are as complicated as the causes.
Youth unemployment is influenced by
many factors, including social trends, the
economy and technology.
We have to be better as a society to
create solutions.
We can no longer rest on the
assumptions of economic growth and
‘tweaking’ programs to bring relative
changes the the lives of the
disenfranchised.
At its core, the lack of engagement is
damaging in itself and will hold back any
movement towards a solution.

4. We need dynamism.
It will do no good to try harder. We need to be smarter. We need to
invest in new ideas like ‘social bonds’, collaborative learning centres
and peer-to-peer networks, so that young people can be a part of the
process.
We need to look to sustainable industries to provide the growth and jobs
that we need for young people so that the opportunities are explicit.
Governments and individuals alike need to encourage each other to
commit to leaving the world in a better place by mentoring young
people, by providing internships and passing on wisdom through
teaching.

5. The core to all of this is
collaboration. It needs to be
facilitated and engaged with.
Young people need to be
provided with opportunities to
create and be a part of the
solutions to the problems of their
generation.
By unlocking the potential of
millions of people we will be
unlocking the potential of our
own counties.
