Speaker: Andy McGregor, deputy chief innovation officer, Jisc. As part of Jisc's R&D work we use a wide range of techniques to help us understand problems and opportunities, imagine solutions and then create them. We have collected these techniques into a playbook that anyone can use to answer questions and create new ideas. This workshop will introduce the playbook by presenting delegates with a digital skills problem and challenging them to use the playbook to plan how they would solve the problem. Every delegate will receive a copy of the playbook to take away and use.

This presentation was shown to Enterprise Advisers volunteers based in the Enterprise M3 region. Enterprise Advisers are local business volunteers who are motivated to help young people understand the world of work. We pair them with Careers Leaders at schools/ colleges to work on a strategic basis. I chose this topic, because there is a requirement for schools/ colleges to have a careers programme in place each year. This generally comes in the form of a spreadsheet which details exactly what careers activities they plan to run, the intended outcomes, and invites employers to get involved. It is best practice to get that document approved before the summer, so the final term of each year generally acts as a time to plan ahead.

Leveraging xAPI and the Yet xAPI Learning Record Store, data from across learning tools and platforms have been unified to provide automated reporting to learners and other stakeholders at Khan Lab School. Khan Lab School is an independent school associated with Khan Academy that runs a personalized, mixed-age program with a project-based learning approach. Because KLS tracks mastery instead of letter grades and groups students by independence level instead of age, a new kind of reporting system is needed to show student progress. Yet Analytics has built role-specific data dashboards for students, teachers, and leadership that pulls data from digital and in-person learning activity to provide a unified view of student progress at KLS. This presentation was presented at xAPI Camp at DevLearn 2017.

This has been a heck of a year. Thanks to the support of the community and great partners, we've exceeded all our wildest dreams (and we had some pretty wild dreams). We launched as part of the larger Venture Cafe Foundation as the first expansion outside of the Boston area. Did you hear that, STL? This was the city in which Venture Cafe expanded. We've learned a lot this past year and we have a lot of learning still to do. As we grow, we are moving toward establishing Venture Cafe - STL as its own standalone nonprofit organization in St. Louis. We will still have an advisory board to help keep us connected to the various innovation sectors in the community, but we are also building a formal board of directors. Stay tuned for the announcement of the leaders assembled to provide strategic governance and stewardship of the Venture Cafe mission. Below is an online version of the State of the Cafe presentation shared during the Oct 1 Venture Cafe Gathering. If you'd like a more detailed report, we've also provided that. Let's have some fun and tackle global challenges at the local level. PDF: http://bit.ly/vencafstl15
