XBOTIX (RUHUNA ROBOTIC CHALLENGE) – 2014
UNDERGRADUATE CATEGORY
ROBOT SPECIFICATION
 Dimensions of the robot should not exceed 20 cm x 20 cm (width x length). The robot must
be able to fit inside a box with dimensions of 20 cm X 20 cm. Robots must have passed
inspection prior to competing. All Robots cannot fulfill that requirement lead to
disqualification.
 Robot should be completely autonomous without any sort of remote controlling. The only
interaction of the participants with the robot should be starting and if necessary stopping. Any
other interaction of the participants with the robot during the run considered as conclusion of
the attempt.
 Robot must run with the power of an internal power source contained within the allowed
dimensions of the robot and voltage should be ≤24 Volts.
 Robot must be completely built by the team itself. No off-the-shelf kits are allowed except
processing boards, sensor modules and drive gears.
 Robot should not cause any damage to the game platform. Any kind of damage to the game
platform will be lead to disqualification.
 A single start switch that is placed on the robot itself must be there for activating the robot.
 The robot should be able to operate under any light condition.
GAME PLATFORM
 The arena shall consist of black lines on a white floor. The line shall be 30 mm wide.
 The arena size shall be 8 feet x 8 feet.
 The arena has three blocks, block A, B and C. As shown in figure.
 In stage A consist with only line following.
 The robot has to move from block A to block B without guidance of lines or with the
guidance of line before it reach the dashed EF line. (Hint: - You can use the cube with
dimensions 10cm x 10cm x 10cm will be positioned as indicated in the figure, to assist the
bot to block B). Block B consist of three paths, each path direct the robot to one of the boxes.
 In block C the bot has to move the one of the boxes in to the pit, by following the lines and
come to the End point.
2
 In block C there are two meshes in left side path and right side path. But no meshes in middle
path. Robot who chose left or right paths have to solve the meshes as well.
 The arena below the dashed EF line remains same in the final task and the dimensions are
keeping with in the range.
 The arena above the dashed EF line (mesh) may be change in final task but the pit and boxes
sizes are remained as indicate.
GAME TASK
The game consists of three stages, stage A, B and C. Stage A of the game is a simple line following
task followed by Stage B where the competitors have to guide their robots without guidance of lines
or with the guidance of lines. In the stage C, the robot has to be guided by following the lines so that
the ultimate goal of this stage is achieved. The ultimate goal of the competition is to move one of the
three boxes that placed near the pit into the pit.
STAGE A
 At the beginning bot must be placed in the starting line A-B.
 Once the game is started, bot must move in the direction shown by the arrow.
 Robot must always follow the lines except during the line segment C-D. We allowed any
robot to leave the line in C-D segment and enter to the block B. Any way if any one leave the
line anywhere in block A except C-D segment can continue the run with minus 5 points.
STAGE B
 Bot must leave the grid during the C-D segment (or anywhere with minus 5 points) of the
arena in block A and select one of the possible paths indicated by numbers 1, 2 and 3, at its
discretion.
Figure 1 : Block A
3
 A cube with dimensions 10cm x 10cm x 10cm will be positioned as indicated in the figure, to
assist the bot to choose one of these paths, if required. Selecting the path number 2 (middle
Path) out of the three possible options would make the completion of the task simpler.
 Choice must be made by the bot before it leaves the dashed EF line.
 Line following is not essential during this period.
 But bots can use the lines to guide.
STAGE C
 Bot must strictly continue to follow the grid lines beyond the line EF and should reach the
place where the box is placed.
 Bots that choose the 1, or 3, path have to solve the mesh and reach the place where the box is
placed.
 Bot must somehow move the box to the pit.
 Once the box is moved in to the pit, bot should come to the Ending place where mark as
black area.
 Time is measured from the referee signal to start until the robot stopped at the Black area.
 There will be a technical inspection before every match.
Figure 2 : Block B
4
GAME RULES
 A maximum of 8 minutes is allowed for a robot to complete the course in one attempt and
Maximum of three attempts are given for each team. A robot that cannot complete the course
in the allotted time shall be disqualified. Grading would take the best attempt.
 After the game started for your robot, no team member shall touch the robot. If anyone
touches the robot, that is considered as end of the attempt. Each new attempt should start
from the starting point.
 Robots are allowed to run everywhere within the arena.
 A robot that wanders off of the arena surface will be disqualified. A robot shall be deemed to
have left the arena when any wheel, leg, or track has moved completely off the arena surface.
 The team can decide to stop the robot anytime and be credited with the distance traveled
along the line up until the robot stops.
 A sample of the path will be given separately, only for tuning purposes.
 No changes are allowed during the run.
 Participating teams are always responsible for the safety of their robots and are liable for any
accidents caused by their team members or their robots.
 The organization and the organizing team members will never be held responsible or liable
for any incidents and / or accidents caused by participating teams or their equipment.
 Team with maximum points will win the match.
 The decisions of the judges will be the final.
Figure 3 : Block C
5
 No objections shall be declared against the judges' decisions.
 The lead person of a team can present objections to the Committee, before the match is over,
if there are any doubts in the exercising of these rules. If there are no Committee members
present, the objection can be presented to the judge before the match is over.
SCORING
 Teams will be awarded 20 points for successfully completing the stage A.
 Teams will be awarded 10 points for entering block B.
 Teams will be awarded 30 points for choosing a path before dashed EF line and enter to the
Block C.
 Teams will be awarded 10 points for coming up to the pit.
 Teams will be awarded 15 points for moving one of the boxes in to pit.
 Teams will be awarded 10 points for coming to the End point.
FINAL SCORE
Final total count as follows,
T: - Total
P: - All points earn during the run
N: - 480 - Total time for run
F: - Penalty
T = P+N - F
