"Description:
This is the second edition of CCM International's trade analysis report on titanium dioxide, covering production and trade situation from Jan. 2008 to Jun. 2009. In this edition we mainly update the trade data. The analysis and depth is similar to that of the first version. Compared to Q1 2009, China's export and import volume of titanium dioxide in Q2 2009 have obviously increased with economic recovery.
The first version: Jan. 2008~May 2009
China is currently the largest titanium dioxide supplier in the world, with its capacity exceeding the USA in 2008 stimulated by growing domestic demand.
With the rapid expansion of domestic titanium dioxide market in recent years, China's TiO2 output and consumption have increased rapidly, but the export has decreased greatly due to the elimination of export tax rebate since Jul.1 2007.
To stimulate domestic economic recovery, Chinese government has implemented the policy of ten industries' revitalization plans since Feb. 2009, and risen the tax rebate of many downstream products, which has indirectly promoted the demand of TiO2.
This report reveals the changes in titanium dioxide industry in 2007~Jun. 2009, with emphasis on export and import situation of titanium dioxide in China.
In this report, you can find detailed analysis for the following questions:
1. What are the capacity/output of China's top 30 manufacturers in 2009, and their product types and ore supply origin?
2. What about titanium dioxide import situation in China in 2007~Jun. 2009, including import volume, import price, origin and consumption evolution?
3. What about the performance of titanium dioxide export in China in 2007~Jun. 2009, including export volume, export price, destinations and exporter?
4. What is the future prospect of titanium dioxide import and export in China?

Executive summary:
Production
China's titanium dioxide production is characterized by dispersed capacity. More than XXX
manufacturers, with total capacity of XXXt/a, are dispersed in XXX provinces, and only XXX

manufacturers have over XXXt/a capacity.
In 2009, capacity of rutile TiO2 has firstly exceeded that of anatase TiO2, showing the gradually
upgraded product structure.
Technology
Chloride process capacity has only constituted XXX% of China's total in early 2009. Pangang Group
Jinzhou Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. is the unique domestic manufacturer adopting chloride process but
its technology is still immature now. It's estimated that sulfate process will still dominant China's
titanium dioxide industry in the following 5 years.
Cost analysis
China's current chloride process hasn't demonstrated cost advantage yet due to inefficient technology
and inferior product quality compared with foreign counterparts, so its profit margin is still low. In current
sluggish market, profit of TiO2 by sulfate process is also very low, especially anatase TiO2, almost with
zero profit. The manufacturers who can supply raw materials by themselves or develop better products
will earn more profits and survive the competition.
TiO2 consumption
Despite the global economic recession, China's TiO2 demand broke a new record in 2008, leading to
large TiO2 import volume. Due to the sluggish overseas demand, China's TiO2 export volume
decreased by XXX% in 2008 over the previous year.
Coating, plastic and papermaking remain the largest three end use sectors, and contribute most to the
newly increased demand in 2008 driven by the Beijing Olympic Games. Although China's TiO2
consumption structure is similar to that of the world, due to different consumption habits, Chinese
consumers pay more attention to the price and usually adopt other materials to replace TiO2 in certain
fields.
Forecast
- Sulfate process will still dominate China's TiO2 production in the following five to ten years, together
with rapid growth of chloride process;
- TiO2 product structure will be more reasonable, but import remain high;
- China's economic stimulus plans will certainly drive the demand for TiO2.
Character of CCM' Report:
The aim of this report is to provide powerful assistance to the strategy group and the management
team in making correct decision as how to penetrate the ever-increasing China market and how to
catch the maximum commercial opportunities. The report is formulated independently by CCM’s
professional market researchers, based on the first-hand and primary data which are analyzed by
scientific methodology, confirmed with both manufacturers/end users/traders and legal authorities, and
presented in a logic way.
