Description:
China’s output of starch, including native and modified starch, is the second largest in the world. Major
varieties of native starch include corn starch, potato starch, cassava starch and wheat starch, while that
of modified starch include corn modified starch, potato modified starch and cassava modified starch.

China’s starch output has kept growing rapidly with CAGR of about 17.00% since 2001, which reached
17.10 million tonnes in 2008. It is predicted that China’s starch output will increase stably to 25.47
million tonnes in 2020. What is the position of Chinese starch industry in the world? Why do Chinese
starch industry develop so fast? Which products will witness promising prospect in the future?

China is the second largest native starch consumption country in the world, with total consumption
value of USD6.10 billion in 2008, of which USD700.00 Driven by strong growth momentum of Chinese
economy in past few years, China’s enzyme industry has witnessed great development. Currently
China is one of the most important enzyme suppliers and consumers around the world, with total sales
value in China up to USD0.15 billion in 2009.

With intense competition, the enzyme industry in China has undergone great changes in recent years.
On one side, China’s enzyme industry has been dominated by some large scale producers and many
small scale producers have been gradually washed out from the market. On the other side, foreign
investors are playing a more and more important role in Chinese enzyme market.

A hotspot comes to: what are the advantages of foreign investors over Chinese enzyme producers?
Why Chinese enzyme industry falls behind the world’s step?

In order to provide comprehensive analysis on China’s enzymes industry in recent years and its future
prospects, questionnaire survey is conducted in this report, with total 11 respondents including enzyme
professors and managers being interviewed on their views of China’s enzyme industry.

The survey results unveil the following key issues keenly concerning the future of China’s enzyme
industry:
What are the key factors influencing¬ development of China’s enzyme industry?
What are the future opportunities¬ and challenges for China’s enzyme industry?
Which kinds of enzyme are¬ mainly exported and imported?
What’s the future performance for different¬ enzymes in China?

Additionally, this report mainly covers the following contents:
History of enzyme industry in China
Overview of enzyme markets in China
Supply situation of enzyme in China
Import and export situation of enzyme in recent three years
Demand situation of enzyme in China

Executive summary:

Enzyme industry in China has experienced over XX years’ development since XX when China
achieved industrialization of α-amylase, the first enzyme produced commercially in China.
Up to now, China has become one of the most important enzyme suppliers and consumers around the
world. There are ore than XX enzyme producers engaged in enzyme business in China, with their total
output of Chinese enzyme up to XX tonnes in XX from XX tonnes in XX. China’s enzyme industry has
been developing fast in the past few years.

Enjoying the strong growth momentum, Chinese enzyme industry, meanwhile also faces some
constraints. The domestic industry falls behind the global step. Great disparity exits between China’s
enzyme industry and the oversea in the aspects of product structure, production scale, industry
standard, etc.

Generally, China’s enzyme products are not developed well in a sustainable way and the popular
products are concentrated in XX varieties. Among the XX output, α-amylase, glucoamylase and
alkaline protease, the most popular enzymes in China, contribute the most, accounting for XX %, XX %
and XX % of China’s total enzyme output.

Besides unbalanced product mix, limited application is another constraint. Although enzymes can be
widely applied to so many fields depending on their high efficiency and environmental friendliness,
enzymatic consumption in China is now quite confined to some certain application fields, mainly
starch-processing, detergent, beer and feed, with consumption proportion of XX %, XX %, XX % and
XX % respectively. These four segments totally take up over XX % of the whole consumption.

Furthermore, Chinese producers are now confronted with increasingly great competition, with foreign
investors playing a more and more important role in Chinese enzyme market. Following the first joint
venture named Jiangyin BSDZYME Bio-engineering Co., Ltd. established in Jiangsu province in XX,
around ten foreign investors have entered the enzyme market in China.

Owing to inadequate R&D investment in technology innovation and new product development, leading
to weak competition of China’s enzyme technologies, none of Chinese enzyme producers can rank
among the top largest enzyme producers around the world now, and this situation will remain so in the
near future. Chinese producers have fallen behind the foreign producers in Chinese market. Only some
advantages such as lower manufacturing cost and huge potential market may inject some confidence
and development room in domestic producers.

To overcome these obstacles for a sustainable industry development, domestic research institutes,
who play the most important role in developing cutting-edge enzyme technology, are expected to do
their endeavor. Thanks to the government’s strong financial supports for the related research
institutions, around ten research institutes take the lead in China’s enzyme research currently.

China’s policy makers have planned a large amount of budget on technology innovation and research
on enzyme for 2006-2010, in order to improve comprehensiveness of China’s enzyme technologies
and facilitate their applications.

The increasing use of enzymes in industrial sectors can bring a lot of benefits, including social,
environmental and economical benefits around the world. Sales value of enzyme in China has reached
to USD XX billion, showing a big increase from USD XX billion in XX.

Character of CCM' Report:
The aim of this report is to provide powerful assistance to the strategy group and the management
team in making correct decision as how to penetrate the ever-increasing China market and how to
catch the maximum commercial opportunities. The report is formulated independently by CCM’s
professional market researchers, based on the first-hand and primary data which are analyzed by
scientific methodology, confirmed with both manufacturers/end users/traders and legal authorities, and
presented in a logic way.

    Enzymes with main components of xylanase and β-glucannase;
    Enzymes with main components of cellulase and pectinase;
    Enzymes with main components of some enzymes mentioned above;
…………..

V-2 Research situation of technologies in China (in the past, current progress)

Research institute with government’s strong financial support plays the most important role in
development of cutting-edge technologies in Chinese enzyme preparation market. The
National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program), has been carried out since XX, is the most
important research program for enzyme industry. Issuance of 863 Program by China’s policy
makers is mainly attributed to following factors:

  • 2. CCM Data & Primary Intelligence Description: China’s output of starch, including native and modified starch, is the second largest in the world. Major varieties of native starch include corn starch, potato starch, cassava starch and wheat starch, while that of modified starch include corn modified starch, potato modified starch and cassava modified starch. China’s starch output has kept growing rapidly with CAGR of about 17.00% since 2001, which reached 17.10 million tonnes in 2008. It is predicted that China’s starch output will increase stably to 25.47 million tonnes in 2020. What is the position of Chinese starch industry in the world? Why do Chinese starch industry develop so fast? Which products will witness promising prospect in the future? China is the second largest native starch consumption country in the world, with total consumption value of USD6.10 billion in 2008, of which USD700.00 Driven by strong growth momentum of Chinese economy in past few years, China’s enzyme industry has witnessed great development. Currently China is one of the most important enzyme suppliers and consumers around the world, with total sales value in China up to USD0.15 billion in 2009. With intense competition, the enzyme industry in China has undergone great changes in recent years. On one side, China’s enzyme industry has been dominated by some large scale producers and many small scale producers have been gradually washed out from the market. On the other side, foreign investors are playing a more and more important role in Chinese enzyme market. A hotspot comes to: what are the advantages of foreign investors over Chinese enzyme producers? Why Chinese enzyme industry falls behind the world’s step? In order to provide comprehensive analysis on China’s enzymes industry in recent years and its future prospects, questionnaire survey is conducted in this report, with total 11 respondents including enzyme professors and managers being interviewed on their views of China’s enzyme industry. The survey results unveil the following key issues keenly concerning the future of China’s enzyme industry: What are the key factors influencing¬ development of China’s enzyme industry? What are the future opportunities¬ and challenges for China’s enzyme industry? Which kinds of enzyme are¬ mainly exported and imported? What’s the future performance for different¬ enzymes in China? Additionally, this report mainly covers the following contents: History of enzyme industry in China Overview of enzyme markets in China Supply situation of enzyme in China Import and export situation of enzyme in recent three years Demand situation of enzyme in China Technological progress of enzyme in China Competitive environment for Chinese enzyme producer and industry Future forecast on Chinese enzyme industry Website: http://www.cnchemicals.com Email: econtact@cnchemicals.com Tel: +86-20-3761 6606 Fax: +86-20-3761 6968

Up to now, China has become one of the most important enzyme suppliers and consumers around the world. There are ore than XX enzyme producers engaged in enzyme business in China, with their total output of Chinese enzyme up to XX tonnes in XX from XX tonnes in XX. China’s enzyme industry has been developing fast in the past few years. Enjoying the strong growth momentum, Chinese enzyme industry, meanwhile also faces some constraints. The domestic industry falls behind the global step. Great disparity exits between China’s enzyme industry and the oversea in the aspects of product structure, production scale, industry standard, etc. Website: http://www.cnchemicals.com Email: econtact@cnchemicals.com Tel: +86-20-3761 6606 Fax: +86-20-3761 6968
  • 5. CCM Data & Primary Intelligence Generally, China’s enzyme products are not developed well in a sustainable way and the popular products are concentrated in XX varieties. Among the XX output, α-amylase, glucoamylase and alkaline protease, the most popular enzymes in China, contribute the most, accounting for XX %, XX % and XX % of China’s total enzyme output. Besides unbalanced product mix, limited application is another constraint. Although enzymes can be widely applied to so many fields depending on their high efficiency and environmental friendliness, enzymatic consumption in China is now quite confined to some certain application fields, mainly starch-processing, detergent, beer and feed, with consumption proportion of XX %, XX %, XX % and XX % respectively. These four segments totally take up over XX % of the whole consumption. Furthermore, Chinese producers are now confronted with increasingly great competition, with foreign investors playing a more and more important role in Chinese enzyme market. Following the first joint venture named Jiangyin BSDZYME Bio-engineering Co., Ltd. established in Jiangsu province in XX, around ten foreign investors have entered the enzyme market in China. Owing to inadequate R&D investment in technology innovation and new product development, leading to weak competition of China’s enzyme technologies, none of Chinese enzyme producers can rank among the top largest enzyme producers around the world now, and this situation will remain so in the near future. Chinese producers have fallen behind the foreign producers in Chinese market. Only some advantages such as lower manufacturing cost and huge potential market may inject some confidence and development room in domestic producers. To overcome these obstacles for a sustainable industry development, domestic research institutes, who play the most important role in developing cutting-edge enzyme technology, are expected to do their endeavor. Thanks to the government’s strong financial supports for the related research institutions, around ten research institutes take the lead in China’s enzyme research currently. China’s policy makers have planned a large amount of budget on technology innovation and research on enzyme for 2006-2010, in order to improve comprehensiveness of China’s enzyme technologies and facilitate their applications. The increasing use of enzymes in industrial sectors can bring a lot of benefits, including social, environmental and economical benefits around the world. Sales value of enzyme in China has reached to USD XX billion, showing a big increase from USD XX billion in XX. Character of CCM' Report: The aim of this report is to provide powerful assistance to the strategy group and the management team in making correct decision as how to penetrate the ever-increasing China market and how to catch the maximum commercial opportunities. The report is formulated independently by CCM’s professional market researchers, based on the first-hand and primary data which are analyzed by scientific methodology, confirmed with both manufacturers/end users/traders and legal authorities, and presented in a logic way.   • 6. ……………. I-3 Development characteristics of Chinese enzyme industry in the past Apart from the rapidly increasing output and rich breeds, China’s enzyme industry also presented some other characters in the past, e.g. technology level kept being improved; application developed to extend and depth; meanwhile, some obvious disadvantages existed. Technology level improved much China’s enzyme industry has improved its production technologies such as air isolation filtration technology, fermentation automatization technology, ultrafiltration membrane post-processing technology, asepsis technology, conservation technology in past thirty years. By increasing investments in technology innovation, China’s enzyme industry has gradually made the following achievements: Varieties and specification of enzyme products have turned to be diversiform; …………… II Overview of enzyme preparations markets in China China is one the most important enzyme suppliers and consumers around the world. Sales value of enzyme in China has reached to USD XX billion, showing a big increase from USD XX billion in XX. Total output of Chinese enzyme has increased to XX tonnes in XX from XX tonnes in XX. It is obvious that increasing use of enzymes in industrial sectors can bring a lot of benefits, including social, environmental and economical benefits around the world. However, given the volatile and vulnerable economic situation resulting from global economic slowdown since H2 XX, Chinese enzyme industry experienced unstable and downward development in XX with the market uncertainty still unfolding currently. ………….. III-1.6 Non-starch polysaccharides enzymes (NSP enzymes) NSP enzymes mainly includes: xylanase, β-glucanase, cellulase, etc. Its main effect is to hydrolyze NSP, which enwraps the nutrition and inhibits the absorption by animal. NSP enzymes are generally compound enzymes. The main kinds include: Enzymes with main components of acidic protease and α-amylase; Enzymes with main components of xylanase and β-glucannase; Enzymes with main components of cellulase and pectinase; Enzymes with main components of some enzymes mentioned above;
