JC Caulfield:
“Seattle Audubon Society Website Executive Summary”
In the beginning of the semester our class was given an assignment; to find an
organization in the area you selected and become of use to them in some way to help birds in that
region. Originally I was hesitant in getting this project done because I personally did not have
much interest in the birds. The more I looked into the topic I found myself striking out left and
right with organizations and people to get in touch with and help serve. As the semester
progressed I became frustrated in my searches and was finally rewarded in my search; a woman
from the Seattle Audubon Society named Marieke Stientjes Rack, who is in charge of setting up
different events and organizing those events for the society. After getting in contact with
Marieke I was given tasks in helping them figure out how to make their web page a more
efficient tool for how they conduct business.
I was asked to go through the different links to try and find the broken links, also I was
asked to read through the different posts that are on the page and see if there are different ways it
could be written so that the average person can enjoy the page and not just the bird enthusiast. I
was also asked to look into other web pages that they felt had a strong following and what they
wish to be like in the future. As I looked into the information that was on the web page I felt that
people could better understand the information better if it was written a bit differently and not so
many technical uses that are hard for the average person to understand. My hopes for the project
is that when people now read the web page they can understand what is offered to them and hope
that the people from the Seattle area can become more involved with the web page and the
events that are hopefully going to be posted more clearly on the actual page. I am still currently

waiting for a response from the society and I hope that the information I gave them will help
develop the page they want and something that can be used in the future in helping to conserve
the page.
In closing, I feel that when I got involved in this project it opened my eyes to a world that
is outside of my own. Something else that came from this project is the new blog I have created
in hopes of having others see the blog and access the web page for the society. The blog can be
viewed at Caulfi79.blog.com and I hope to continue this and look forward to hopefully helping
the Seattle Audubon Society in more than just surveying the web page and looking to improve
the site. I also hope one day I can use my skills in Advertising and creating other tools to market
this society.
