Writers of persuasive texts (such as the
contents of the Open Letter), pay attention
to the transitions between opinions and
supporting details.
Today, you are going to pay attention to the
transitions in your drafts.
Transition words and phrases are words
that link ideas and show the relationship
between ideas
5. Publish (or Post)
Open Letters
There are different types of
transition words that we use for
different purposes.
Let’s take a look at Lupita’s letter
to see what transition words she
used.
Ex. Therefore is a transition word
that shows the consequence or
affect of doing something.
Currently is another transition word
that is used to order an idea
according to time.
6. Publish (or Post)

Finish rereading
Lupita’s Letter and
highlight the Transition
Words and Phrases
she used in her
published letter.
Then, I would like you
guys to use some of
these transition words
or phrases and
highlight them in your
published letter.

8. Debate Team Prep Time
Remembering your issue from the groups
that were assigned on Monday, please
meet with your half of your group
(ex. all pros to an issue meet separately
from the cons of the same issue.)
Begin to prepare your strategy, what main
points do you think your opponents will
bring up and are you prepared for their
possible rebuttals?
