Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. He was an American astronaut and naval aviator who commanded the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. On this mission, Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon while Michael Collins remained in orbit. Armstrong performed the first manned spacecraft docking during his first spaceflight on Gemini 8 in 1966.
