97% OF WATER ON THE EARTH IS SALT WATER, AND ONLY 3% IS FRESH WATER OF WHICH SLIGHTLY OVER TWO THIRDS IS FROZEN IN GLACIERS AND POLAR ICE CAPS . THE REMAINING UNFROZEN FRESHWATER IS MAINLY FOUND AS GROUNDWATER, WITH ONLY A SMALL FRACTION PRESENT ABOVE GROUND OR IN THE AIR.
There are five oceans on the Earth. These are the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic and Antarctic Ocean . These oceans all flow into each other.  With so much water on our planet, oceans are an important part of it.
The Antarctic is the second smallest ocean. During the winter, large parts of the ocean are frozen. The Arctic Ocean is the world’s smallest and shallowest ocean. For almost half of the year, this ocean is covered in thick ice. The Arctic is home to endangered species such as walruses and whales. The Indian Ocean is the third largest ocean in the world. There are many coral reefs found in this ocean. The Pacific Ocean is the world’s largest and deepest ocean covering almost one third of the Earth’s surface. The Atlantic Ocean is the world’s second largest ocean. This ocean is less salty than the other oceans as plenty of fresh water flows into it from the many rivers on the surrounding continents. The Pacific Ocean is the world’s largest and deepest ocean covering almost one third of the Earth’s surface.

Mining: a sustained environmental destruction In the next few years will intensify mining in Colombia, which could enhance economic growth. But beyond the financial forecasts the country could be on the verge of a sustained environmental destruction. Natural parks, moors and forest reserve areas may be affected. The illegal exploitation, pollution and the large sums that moves the business cloud the picture. The destruction of riverside Dagua would be only the beginning Ana Carolina Muriel Estudiante de Licenciatura en Literatura- Univalle Aviso Legal - Copyright Periódico cultural LA PALABRA. Colombia has seen weeks of heavy rain that have left large parts of the country flooded, and brought death and destruction. Transport by boat is for many the only way to get around. Noviembre de 2010
The government estimates that floods and landslides have caused damage of some $5bn, with buildings inundated and roads blocked. A total of 1,821 homes have been damaged or destroyed.
In recent weeks, the wettest rainy season in over 40 years has battered Columbia and Venezuela, with flooding and landslides claiming over 200 lives, forcing millions of people from their homes and inundating valuable agricultural crops
