1. Hacks, DIY (do it yourself), DIT (do it together), realtime data, circuit bending, hardware
hacking, mods, bents, artware, webapps, low-fi, live coding, música, sonido.

Do it yourself (or DIY) is a term used to describe building, modifying, or repairing of something
without the aid of experts or professionals. The phrase "do it yourself" came into common usage
in the 1950s in reference to home improvement projects which people might choose to complete
independently.
In recent years, the term DIY has taken on a broader meaning that covers a wide range of skill
sets. DIY is associated with the international alternative rock, punk rock, and indie rock music
scenes; indymedia networks, pirate radio stations, and the zine community. In this context, DIY
is related to the Arts and Crafts movement, in that it offers an alternative to modern consumer
culture's emphasis on relying on others to satisfy needs.

Boyd Rice

"Early NON performances were designed to offer choice to audience members who might
otherwise expect only a prefabricated and totally passive entertainment experience. Rice has
stated that he considers his performances to be "de-indoctrination rites". Rice has performed
using a shoe polisher, the "rotoguitar" (an electric guitar with an electric fan on it), and other
homemade instruments. He has also used found sounds, played at a volume just below the
threshold of pain, to entice his audiences to endure his high decibel sound experiments.
Rice coupled his aural assaults with psychological torture on audiences in Den Haag, the
Netherlands, by shining exceedingly bright lights in their faces that were deliberately placed just
out of reach. As their frustration mounted, Rice states that he:
..continued to be friendly to the audience, which made them even madder, because they were so
mad and I didn't care! They were shaking their fists at me, and I thought that at any minute
there'd be a riot. So I took it as far as I thought I could, and then thanked them and left.[3] "

Circuit bending, the intentional short-circuiting of low power electronic devices to create new
musical devices, also plays a significant role on the hardware end of glitch music and its
creation.
