5. united nations role in Afghanistan The United Nations came to Afghanistan to provide at least the minimum needed for survival for ordinary Afghani’s affected by the war and unrest in their country. In the 1990’s the people of Afghanistan were also severely affected by a sequence of natural disasters; floods and earthquakes. Since then, there has been a harsh drought in the country. The drought has increased the pain of about 2.5 million people. The United Nations has provided food & shelter, helped millions of refugees return to their homes in Afghanistan, improved the education system, and brought attention to the role of women in the country.

In this attack, 12 people were killed. This included 4 international security guards, 3 UN workers, and 5 demonstrators. 24 people were also wounded.
