Molloy Recommendation
1. December 15, 2014
Dear PAEMST Selection Committee:
I am writing to you regarding A. Jorge Garcia in support of his nomination for the 2015
Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).
Mr. Garcia has been a presenter for each of the 4 times that we have offered the
“Teachers, Teaching with Technology (T3) Regional Conference” hosted by Molloy
College and sponsored by Texas Instruments in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013. Mr.
Garcia has offered such workshops as: “Programming The TI-89 for Fun and Profit”,
“How to Program Your TI-83 Without Really Trying”, “Look, Ma, No Calculator!” and
“SAGE Advice!”. He consistently receives outstanding evaluations for the attendees
(most secondary school math teachers).
As the Dean of the Division of Continuing Education, I oversee the administrative details
of a number of non-credit programs geared toward an adult population, such as we
have with the “T3” conference. One of my duties is to find speakers who are both
knowledgeable in the subject matter and can transmit that knowledge to our attendees.
Finding such individuals is difficult because it is not often that you come across people
with that combination of qualities. Mr. Garcia happens to be one of those select people
that is able to share his practical expertise with the attendees in such a way that they
get the full benefit of what he has to offer.
Typically adults taking our conferences want to get their moneys worth out of a speaker
and Mr. Garcia gives them that and a lot more. In the 10 years that I have known him, I
have found him to be an exceptionally talented teacher. Mr. Garcia consistently
receives outstanding evaluations from the attendees in each conference.
He is an asset to our conferences and to Molloy. I only wish I could find more speakers
like him. I fully support his nomination for 2015 PAEMST.
Sincerely,
Louis J. Cino
Dean, Division of Continuing Education and Professional Development
