Title:
PreCalculus: Elementary Functions (4cr.)
Text:
PreCalculus: Functions Modeling Change
By Connally, Hughes-Hallett, et al, 4th
Edition, Wiley Publisher
Description:
MAT 111 is a primer course for the study of Calculus. The
function concept plays a unifying role in the study of
polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and
trigonometric functions. The modeling of elementary functions
is stressed throughout the course along with a basic
philosophy of examining the function concept using the Rule of
Four (Graphically, Numerically, Analytically and Wordily).
Technological support using a Graphing Calculator is
integrated throughout the semester.
Prerequisite:
At least 75% average in three years of high school
mathematics (including trigonometry) or at least a C in MAT
109.
Topics:
• Chapter 01: Linear Functions and Change
• Chapter 02: Functions in General
• Chapter 03: Quadratic Functions
• Chapter 04: Exponential Functions
• Chapter 05: Logarithmic Functions
• Chapter 06: Transformations of Functions
• Chapter 07: Trigonometry in Circles and Triangles
• Chapter 08: Trigonometric Functions
• Chapter 09: Trigonometric Identities
• Chapter 10: Combinations of Functions
• Chapter 11: Polynomial and Rational Functions
• Chapter 12: Vectors and Matrices
• Chapter 13: Sequences and Series
• Chapter 14: Parametrics and Conics
