Respect | Relationships | Responsibility
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes strike
a balance between addressing the unique needs of various
communities while partnering the state and central agencies
to help strive for the betterment of the social indicators of the
regions.
This journey from micro to macro makes the CSR initiatives
more effective and sustainable.
For every life touched there is a larger story of the
community and the village.

East Godavari is primarily an
agricultural district and is among the
most prosperous districts in the state.
Statistically, it is a potential hinterland for
hydrocarbon reserves in the country, as
many locations in the Godavari Basin
have been identified as rich sources for
oil and natural gas in the country.
In sharp contrast to the district,
Surasaniyanam is one of the most
backward villages. Its population is
mainly engaged in agriculture, prawn
fishing and petty labour.
A majority of women across the country are
denied even the basic dignity and human
respect of having the provision of individual
toilets.

Health and
Sanitation
As per statistics, crimes
against women in smaller
villages and towns are
mostly committed when they
step out in the open fields
due to absence of toilets in
their vicinity. Cairn designed
and implemented a total
sanitation programme in the
village. The investment
made to construct individual
toilets is much higher than
the national average.
Women in the village feel
these toilets have helped
restore their dignity. They no longer have to step out in fear and it has helped improve hygiene
practices in the village.
Cairn has created infrastructure for storage of potable water and has implemented a model for
distribution of safe drinking water to individual households in collaboration with the Panchayat.
Our intervention on health in Ravva has been related to both preventive and curative care at
different levels. Cairn runs a clinic in Surasaniyanam, which addresses the primary healthcare
needs of the community in the village and other neighbouring villages. Apart from an Out Patient
Department (OPD), facility Cairn also provides round-the-clock emergency services. Health
camps are also organised from time to time with focus on specific health issues.
Absence of state of the art
healthcare facility in the vicinity of
Surasaniyanam resulted in a lot of
health related problems being left
unaddressed.
