B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Before we start our lesson for today, I
will divide the class into two groups.
Are you familiar with Louis Armstrong’s
song “What a Wonderful World”?
Now, we are going to watch a video
presentation and since you already
know the song, I want you to sing
along with it while watching. AmI
making myself clear?
Here are the guide questions that you
are going to answer after watching
Students’ Activity
Yes, Ma’am.
Yes, Ma’am.

the presentation. Kindly read this
altogether.
As you are watching the video, I also
require you to write down your insights,
ideas, and descriptions on the pictures
flashed on the screen. AmI clear?
If that so, then let’s watch now the
video presentation.
How do you find the video?
Good! Now, it’s time for us to answer
the guide questions. Kindly answer
number 1.
Excellent! How about number 2?
Nice answer. Do you mind to answer
Guide Questions:
1. What are the wonders you see in
the presentation? How will you
describe them?
2. In what waysyou can show your
love and appreciation to the
world where you are living now?
3. What is the message of the
song?
4. What will you do to make our
world a better place to live in?
5. What are the adjectives used in
the song? What do they
describe?
Yes, Ma’am.
(Students watch the presentation)
Ma’am, it is so overwhelming to
know how wonderful our world is,
but the saddest part is that our
world today is almost destroyed by
people.
Trees- green and fruitful
Roses/flowers- red and
bloomed
Ocean- clean and blue
Birds and other animals- free
and peaceful
People- forgiving
Plant more trees
Taking care of environment
Refrain fromloitering around

the third question?
Great! And the fourth question?
And number 5?
It seems that you really understand the
message of the song. Now, that you
have your own group, you’re going to
write an essay regarding the
descriptions you gather earlier while
watching the video. But, there’s a twist.
The first person should start writing the
paragraph. Do not reveal to your
members what you are writing. When
you have written about a paragraph,
fold the paper down so that only the
last sentence can only be seen. Pass
the paper to the next person, and the
routine is the same. The only clue you
have to continue writing is the last line
of the paragraph and the focus is on
video presented. Do not forget to
incorporate descriptive words on your
work. Afterwards, you will read your
outputs aloud. Be sure that your work is
finished as the music stops.
Time’s up! You can now read your
outputs.
The song tells us that we
should take care of the world
before it’s too late. People
have lost its essence and
beauty. And because of the
turbulence of our days, we
forget to observe the many
wonders that our world offers.
If we want our world a better
place to live in, then we
should start it with ourselves.
A good citizen can influence
other people to help one
another to make our world
peaceful and better.
Wonderful-world
Pretty- colors of the rainbow
Bright, blessed- day
Dark, sacred- night
(Students in groups write the activity
while the videois played for the
second time)
(Students read their outputs aloud)

What have you noticed in the essay
you have written?
Based on the activity you havedone,
what do you think is our lesson for
today?
Good. Do you mind to read the
definition of descriptive essay?
Thank you. It is also the genre that
encourages the student’s ability to
create a written account of a
particular experience. What is more,
this genre allowsfor a great deal of
artistic freedom(the goal of which is to
paint an image that is vivid and
moving in the mind of the reader). To
write an effective descriptiveessay, we
have some guidelines to follow. Kindly
read number 1.
Thank you. So, if I ask you to write a
descriptive essay about nature or the
world as a whole, you must jot down all
the adjectives that suit the topic to
avoid mental blocked.
This means that words are chosen
carefully, particularly for their
relevancy in relation to that which you
are intending to describe. We must be
accurate always in describing things to
avoid misunderstanding.
If you are describing something, you
need to be appealing to the senses of
the reader. Explain how the thing
smelled, felt, sounded, tasted, or
looked. Embellish the moment with
senses. And what are the senses used?
Can you give examples on sentences
applying this rule with regards to the
video wewatched earlier?
It usually described particular
person, place, thing, or event.
Ma’am, our lesson for today is all
about descriptiveessay.
Descriptive essay is a genre of essay
that asks the student to describe
something—object, person, place,
experience, emotion, situation, etc.
Take time to brainstorm.
Use clear and concise
language
Use your senses
Ma’am, we have the eyes, nose,
ears, tongue, and skin.

Very good. And the fourth one?
The structure of your essay can start
fromgeneral to specific or in
chronological order as long as the
reader conveysthe message you want
to say. It always depends on the style
the writers have. You must strive to
present an organized and logical
description if the reader is to come
away fromthe essay with a cogent
sense of what it is you are attempting
to describe. And the last rule?
The conclusion may also use
descriptive words; however, make
certain the conclusion is logical and
relevant.
Okay. Now that we are familiar with
the rules, let’s analyze an example of
essay first.
(Teacher groups students into four and
each will be given a particular
guideline in essay writing. Students
judge the essay based on the
guideline assigned to them. 3 minutes
will be given to write their judgment)

MEMORIES FROM THE CABANA
I was born and raised in South
America, a continent with a lot of
mountain ranges–ideal for mountain
climbing and hiking-long winding
rivers, lush forests, wonderful
beaches, as well as valleys with
breathtaking views. Based on
experience, I can say that it is a
tropical country; which was
confirmed during my history class in
sixth grade. In a country where it’s
hot and humid, my fashion
statement is sporting a large white
(sometimes blue) t-shirt and a
Hawaiian type shorts. A dark pair of
shades is also an important part of
my get-up as it protects my eyes
from the sun’s harsh rays. Being
born in South America you might
think that I have dark hair with
brown eyes and a charming smile;
a typical Cabana boy.
