2. Red Robin Nursery Red Robin Nursery welcomes children between the ages of 4 months and 4 years. Open from 8am till 6pm daily, Red Robin nursery provides a warm, welcoming environment for each individual child to learn and grow, encouraging them to become secure well adjusted children for the society we live in today. Our Mission Statement : Giving children the knowledge, experience and skills to encourage self confidence and independence in a fun and nurturing environment.

5. Red Robin Nursery Pricing . Fees are payable 1 month in advance, 4 weeks notice is required in the event of a child leaving the nursery. Fees are non-refundable should the child be absent due to illness or holiday. Upon enrolment, a deposit of £50.00 is required. This money is refundable against your first week in the setting. We provide nappy wipes, drinks, meals and snacks for the children. Parents are requested to provide nappies, bottles and formula powder if required. We have facilities for breastfeeding, and storage for expressed milk should that be the wish of the family. We offer discounts for siblings, please ask for more details. We accept childcare vouchers which offer you savings on your childcare costs. For more information please contact the nursery. Being Ofsted registered means that all children from the age of 3 years are eligible for funding, which the nursery applies for on your behalf, this means you will pay less. 6. Red Robin Nursery Staff : The nursery is staffed by 2 teachers, several nursery nurses, a manager and a deputy manager. The setting is run as an open plan area with free flow of the children between activities and areas that the children choose. Daily there are activities set up in the art area, music and dance area, baby areas and the main indoor and outdoor areas. The long-range planning of these activities is overseen by the teachers, with daily discussions with the children. Each activity area is overseen by one or more member of staff, including the manager and deputy manager, and depending on the numbers of children within each area. Daily, we have around 10 babies, 20 2-3 year olds and 30 3-4 year olds within the nursery. On an average day therefore, we have 2 nursery teachers and 10 nursery nurses plus the manager and deputy manager. Ofsted statutory requirements state that for the above number of children and ages, 12 staff members need to be present. Within Red Robin Nursery, we aim to have 2 extra staff members per day, allowing cover for each staff member to have time each week to work on each child’s special book, work one to one with key children and go on any training that is available. Furthermore, the large staff ensures that each child has enough care, can play both indoors and out in safety and security, and has a variety of adults to interact with.

7. Red Robin Nursery How we work : The nursery works daily as a free-flow area, with children choosing their activities as they want to. Not only are specific activities planned and carried out daily, but within the setting the activity shelves are at child height, allowing the children to select activities that are not already out should they wish to do so. Within the long term planning we aim to celebrate as many cultural events as possible, and we encourage families to come and celebrate with us as much as possible. We also aim to reflect this within our menu. Using both indoor and outdoor spaces to their maximum potential is key to nursery policy, and we encourage children to play outdoors no matter what the weather. We have set outdoor play times, and encourage each child to participate in helping with the garden, growing plants and maintaining our indoor garden above the central island in the nursery. (See plan). The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation, with especial notice given to the 4 principles. The concepts of ‘A Unique Child’, ‘Positive Relationships’, ‘Enabling Environments’, and ‘Learning and Development’ are a vital part of the nursery, and we aim to ensure each child receives the best care, play and learning opportunities we can provide. Each child is allocated a key worker within their first 3 weeks at nursery, dependant upon whom they have formed a strong bond with amongst the staff. This team member is responsible for ensuring the child feels happy and secure at nursery, as well as being the parents first port of call with any questions and queries. Ensuring that every child receives an enjoyable and challenging learning and development experience that is tailored to meet their individual needs. (Early Years Foundation Stage).

8. Red Robin Nursery Menu . We rotate through menu’s on a weekly basis, working from a 3 weekly plan that is updated on a term by term basis. Prepared by trained members of the nursery staff, meals are eaten as a group along side staff members, and children are encouraged to try new foods. The menu is varied for seasonal availabilities of local fruit and vegetables, as well as for cultural celebrations. Babies are weaned and fed as to families wishes. Fresh Water is available at all times. Breakfast is served at 8:00am. Morning Snack is served at 10:00am Lunch and pudding is served at 12:00pm Afternoon Snack is served at 2:00pm Dinner and pudding is served at 4:15pm Each day on the menu is divided into lunch and dinner. Snacks comprise of fruit or vegetables available seasonally, in combination with other healthy options. Within the nursery menu, we aim to provide a healthy balanced diet, with enough options to allow for children’s likes and dislikes. A full 3 week menu is available upon request. Dietary requirements can be catered for upon discussion with the nursery. The nursery operates as a nut-free zone.

10. Red Robin Nursery Daily Routine : 8am: arrival and breakfast. 8.30am: arrival of school session. 8.30am – 10am: free-flow play. 10am: snack time. 10.15am-12pm: free-flow play. 12pm: lunchtime 12.30pm-1pm: quiet time, reading and gentle activities. 1pm: departure of morning session and arrival of afternoon session. 1pm-2pm: free-flow play. 2pm: snack time 2.15pm-4.15: free-flow play. 3.30pm: departure of school-time session. 4.15pm: dinner time. 4.45pm-5pm: quiet time, reading and gentle activities. 5pm-6pm: free-flow play. 5.30pm-6pm: pick up time. During the day in each area of the nursery, planning boards are written on with ideas for activities suggested by the children. Nap-time and rests are worked into each child’s day upon discussion with families.

11. Red Robin Nursery Case Study : a sample day at nursery. Arriving at 8am Sammy (3) is welcomed by his key worker and Dad and key worker catch up on how he is. Sammy has a bowl of Cheerios and says bye to Dad. Having finished breakfast Sammy goes outside and rides on the bikes, before helping to replant some bulbs in a planter. Coming inside for snack, Sammy goes on to do some pasta art in the art room with his key person. In the main room Sammy takes the box of sticklebricks out and spends time building a sky scraper with help from another child. For lunch Sammy has a roast dinner sat at a table with his friends, and fruit for desert. After lunch he spends time in the sensory room exploring the light and bubble tubes before having a nap for an hour in the sleep room after a story. At 3.30 Sammy has a late snack and moves to play in the baby area, where he explores a treasure basket that is based on ‘noise’ the theme of the week. At 4.14pm Sammy has dinner, again with his friends before enjoying a story with props as part of a small group in the music and dance room. After the story Sammy goes to play in the inside garden, climbing on the telly-tubby landscape before helping to hang his pasta picture on a washing line display of this week’s art. Sammy’s grandmother arrives at 5.30 and spends time with Sammy and his key worker talking about the day, before being given the daily summary sheet and going home.

12. Red Robin Nursery Observations : Each child is observed on a regular basis by their key worker, with the observations being entered in their special book to be seen by the family. Photos are taken throughout each day and put with the observations to illustrate them for the child’s family. These observations are used to help inform staff how best to support each child individually and to ensure activities and support is given that is best suited to the child’s needs and requirements for development. Each child also has a file kept by the nursery, available on request by the parents, to keep copies of any observations, relevant photos, and any registration or other forms pertaining to the child. Planning : Long term planning of activities and trips is done by the 2 nursery teachers within the setting, with one afternoon a week set aside for each to talk to the nursery staff about their key children and how each activity they have overseen has gone, taking ideas for new activities from the suggestions board in each room of the nursery. Suggestions boards - the children are encouraged to give ideas about activities while doing other activities and each room has a flip chart for writing down these ideas. Parents are also encouraged to give suggestions and are welcome to peruse the boards and write ideas down. Ever quarter a meeting is held between the parents, manager, deputy manager and nursery teachers to discuss activities and trips, where families are encouraged to give suggestions, comment on how the nursery activities have gone, and recommend any new ideas or equipment they would like to see implemented within the setting.

16. Red Robin Nursery Policies : The nursery uses the Early Years Foundation Stage to guide it’s policies and procedures. These are outlined below. For more information, or a full copy of our policies or more information, please ask a member of staff. Suitable Staff : all staff within the setting have CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checks before employment. All staff are at level 3 or above, and staff training is an ongoing policy of the nursery. All staff attend Food Hygiene training. Child Protection : We fully recognise our responsibility for child protection and seek to promote the fundamental principles of the Children Act 1989 and fulfil the requirements of Safeguarding Children in Education (Sept 04) DfES guidance in accordance with Section 175 of the Education Act 2002. Our policy applies to all staff, governors and volunteers working in the nursery. Child protection is central to the well-being of each of our pupils and is therefore an intrinsic part of all aspects of the curriculum & learning environment. The whole nursery ethos seeks to support the development of all our pupils in ways, which will foster security, confidence and independence. Health and Safety : We believe that the prevention of incidents, accidents, injury or loss is essential to the efficient organisation of the nursery and take all such steps as are reasonably practicable to meet our responsibility for providing a safe & healthy working & learning environment for staff, pupils and visitors.

17. Red Robin Nursery Health (illness and medicines) : In the interest of the other children and the staff, we ask that you do not bring your child to nursery if they are unwell or suffering from any infections. For information regarding specific illnesses/infections, please ask. Medication can only be given if signed notification is given in advance by the parents in the appropriate book. Special Educational Needs : The nursery is happy to accept special needs children. Following discussion with the parents individual learning programmes can be established, our full policy is available on request. Inclusion : We aim to provide an environment where all feel valued and free from discrimination, reflecting our multicultural society where families, staff and children work together. We are committed to promoting the understanding of the principles and practises of equality – treating all those associated with the nursery as individuals. However we recognise that for some this may be specific and sometimes require the help of other outside professionals. For this reason we are committed to encouraging multi-agency work. Equal Opportunities : It is the Red Robin Nursery’s policy to treat all children equally regardless of race, religion, gender or disability. Accidents : In the unlikely event of any injury, the injury and treatment will be logged in the accident book and the appropriate steps taken to ensure your child's well being. Behaviour : We aim to provide a positive, consistent approach to all behaviour. If there are consistent problems, decisions regarding responses will be discussed fully with parents/carers.

18. Red Robin Nursery Ratio’s of Adults to Children : The Early years Foundation Stage requires the following: 1 adult : 3 children under 2. 1 adult : 4 children between 2 and 3. 1 trained nursery teacher : 13 children between 3 and 4, OR 1 adult : 8 children aged 3 and 4. All adults in the nursery are of level 3 or above. Enrollment: A registration fee of £50.00 will be charged in order to cover administration costs and to secure your child's place with us (please make cheque payable to Red Robin Nursery). Should a place not be available at the time of registration, your child will be placed on our waiting list and as soon as a place opens up you will be contacted. We would appreciate notification if you would like your child's name removed from this list. Departure : A notice period of 4 weeks must be given in the event that you are taking your child out of nursery. If notification is not given, fees will still be charged. Partnership with Parents : Parents are the first educators of their young children, and we aim to support and encourage this with regular communication with parents. We also hold regular one-to-one meetings between each child’s key worker, the nursery manager and the parent. We encourage parents to be as involved as possible in their child’s nursery experience, and ensure parents are regularly informed of their child’s time in nursery.

19. Confidentiality : We understand that within our nursery work with children and families, we will sometimes come into contact with confidential information. All information is regarded as confidential, and shared only on a need to know basis. Parents will have access to all information on their child, but not of any other children. The confidentiality policy is subject to the paramount commitment of the Nursery which is to the safety and well being of the child. Please see also our policy on child protection. Data Protection: The nursery, as part of it’s day to day running comes into contact with information regarding it’s children and their families. Legally we are required to ensure that this personal information is dealt with properly and securely regardless of what method is used for its collection, recording or use – whether this is paper, a computer system or any other material. We have safeguards in place to ensure that the processing of such information is carried out in a proper fashion and these are in line with the Data Protection Act. Complaints : Red Robin Nursery aims to provide a stimulating, safe environment for all children. We aim to deliver the highest standard of care and foster good relationships with all parents and carers. We believe parent’s views and concerns should be respected and acknowledged, and understand that on occasion circumstances may result in a parent or carer wishing to make a complaint.
