1. Queensland Building Services Authority
Suffer Defeat by Simply Bathrooms and
Brenton Wayne Butler
5th
April 2013
Queensland - 5st
April: 2013 –Simply Bathrooms Pty Ltd and Brenton Wayne Butler were declared to
pay no fines by Magistrate Thacker recently. Simply Bathrooms have engaged in building more than 500
quality residential bathrooms for Queenslanders. They have worked across South East Queensland for a
very large clientele. Simply Bathrooms is well known for their quality constructions.
The company involved in building and construction work faced severe charges from Queensland Building
Services Authority (QBSA) and its General Manager Ian Jennings last year. Brenton Wayne Butler was
also charged for breaching the Queensland Building Services Authority Act 1991. Magistrate Costello
fined the company to pay over $320,000. Several other companies including Rethink Kitchens and
Bathrooms were also charged by the QBSA. Such activities started wide spread complaints against QBSA.
The Queensland Government requested a parliamentary enquiry.
A parliamentary committee conducted a detailed investigation about QBSA and confirmed the
organization lacked accountability and needed to be disbanded as soon as practicable. The need to
immediately disband the QBSA and separate it into various entities was the first point raised by the
committee. Nearly 41 recommendations had been put forward to implement these reforms.
Simply Bathrooms and Brenton Wayne Butler were vindicated and freed from the liability to pay any
fines. Simply Bathrooms, Simply Bathrooms Australia, Simply Bathrooms Renovations Queensland,
Bathrooms Australia and Nobby Holdings are continuing to carrying on business as usual. Brenton
Wayne Butler, charged by QBSA for nearly 50 breaches agreed the companies did well to manage the
accusations over the past two years. He hoped that the costs awarded against the QBSA serve as a
serious warning to organisations like the QBSA.
Brenton Wayne Butler and many other Queenslandershave faced long legal battles with QBSA.
Commenting about dissolving QBSA and reforming it, Tim Mander said “It’s never ideal to have Caesar
judging Caesar”. Queenslanders can again breathe a sigh of relief thanks to Newman Government
reforms.
