Awards for Excellence
    Nomination Form
2009 QUT Awards for Excellence
The 2009 QUT Awards for Excellence recognises best
practice, innovation and achievement in urban and
regional planning studies at QUT. The QUT Planning
Students Association 2009 Awards for Excellence is the
first ever awards ceremony aimed at celebrating
undergraduate and postgraduate student academic
excellence and citizenship. The Awards ceremony will be
held on Friday 13 November 2009 at the Owen J
Wordsworth room at QUT Gardens Point.



The QUT Planning Students Association has decided on 15
award categories this year. A winner and commendation
may be awarded in each category and these will be
announced at the Awards for Excellence Ceremony to be
held on Friday 13 November 2009. The awards will be
judged by a panel of academics, past students, existing
students and professions from the industry.



Students are eligible to nominate as individuals, as a team
or able to nominate other students in recognition of their
work.

A copy of the entry form, outline of each award and a
submission guide is attached for your information.

Nominations close 5pm on Wednesday 21 October 2009.

Awards

                                        •These can be awarded to any project team or individual in
Best Project Awards (4 Awards for
                                         their 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study at QUT for any
Years 1 to 4 of study)
                                         project within any unit.




                                        •The Planning course at QUT emphasises the great need to
Best Display of Teamwork in a Group
                                         work co-operatively in teams. This award can be presented
Project Award (4 awards for Years 1
                                         to any project team in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of

                                         study at QUT for any team project within any unit.


                                        •Work Integrated Learning (work experience) is a compulsory
The Buckley Vann Town Planning           unit which all planning students must undertake as part of
Consultants Prize for Best Display of    their course. This award can be presented to any student
Personal Reflection in a Work            who has shown leadership, excellence and professionalism
Integrated Learning Unit                 in undertaking a personal reflection of their workplace
                                         experiences.


                                        •Many of the planning units at QUT require the use of visual
                                         displays to accompany text, including plans, maps and
Best Visual Display in Any Year
                                         video. This award recognises excellence in graphic and
                                         visual design.


                                        •The core of any planning project, a vision and objectives are
                                         required for most projects at QUT. This award can be
Best Vision and Objectives in a
                                         presented to any team or individual who have displayed a

                                         comprehensive, creative or thoughtful vision and objectives
                                         in a project.



                                        •This is an award for any student to recognise citizenship and

                                        •An award dedicated to celebrating the teaching excellence

                                        •This award recognises academic excellence of a student
Academic     Excellence       in   a     enrolled in a postgraduate degree. This may include the
Postgraduate Degree                      Graduate Diploma, Masters by Research or Coursework or a
                                         PhD.
The QUT Planning Students Association 2009 Awards for
Excellence

The QUT Planning Students Association 2009 Awards for Excellence is the first ever
awards ceremony aimed at celebrating undergraduate and postgraduate student
academic excellence and citizenship. The Awards ceremony will be held on Friday 13
November 2009 at the Owen J Wordsworth room at QUT Gardens Point. We expect
that approximately 100 students and their families will be in attendance. Academic
and sessional employees of QUT will also be cordially invited.

Esteemed guests may include the Chancellor, Major General Peter Arnison; Vice-
Chancellor, Professor Peter Coaldrake; Dean of Built Environment and Engineering
Faculty, Professor Martin Betts and invitations will be extended to the Minister for
Infrastructure and Planning, the Honorable Stirling Hinchcliffe as well as other

organisations and professionals with an interest in Planning in Queensland.

Submitted Materials Required:                                                                          2009 Awards for Excellence
    1.    Entry Form – complete and supply one signed hard copy
    2.    Required number of hard copies of your project – provide 1 hard copy of your project on A4
          paper, bound and double sided (if applicable)
    3.    Abstract – supply one A4 page suitable for media and promotional use
    4.    Images – provide a CD, DVD or USB Drive with any images of the project (print quality
          resolution jpgs).




         Nominations close 5pm on Wednesday 21 October 2009.
Criteria

The 2009 QUT Awards for Excellence will be judged against Criteria established by
the Judging Panel. The entries will be considered against these criteria and given a
score out of 10. Each criterion has been given a weighting – a multiplier to the score
reflecting the significance the panel place on that element in achieving the award
objective – between 1 - 5 with 5 being rated as most important. The score for each
criterion is in a column on the right hand side of the criteria. The weighted scores
will be averaged and the final scores will form the basis of award determination.

Requests for award submissions to be returned after the presentation of the awards
will be considered at the QUT PSA’s discretion.

All award recipients will be encouraged to attend the 2009 QUT Awards for
Excellence ceremony to be held on Friday 13 November 2009 at the Owen J
Wordsworth Room, Level 12, S Block, QUT Gardens Point.
