2. Here is the assignment You are to find three (3) editorial cartoons that are appropriate for the high school classroom. You will find one editorial cartoon for EACH of the following types of appeal: emotional appeal, ethical appeal, and logical appeal. I have provided some good links for editorial cartoons, but you are welcome to do your own search. After you find editorial cartoons that represent the three different appeals, move on to the actual assignment frame that is titled "8.4 Mastery Assignment 1."

3. With each slide in 8.4.1 Include the citation under each cartoon. On the same document, explain how each cartoon is an example of an appeal. For example, if one cartoon is relying on emotion, then tell me how the cartoon is relying on emotion.

An Ethical Appeal an appeal made to someone's or something's image Involves convincing others that they can believe in you and your ideas, that you are someone they can trust and respect This appeal will often refer to others who are seen as a credible or trustworthy source. These often mention famous people such as athletes, musicians, or actors. Other arguments mention people in trusted leadership positions such as other parents, teachers, or community leaders.

5. Ethical Cartoon This cartoon illustrates a lack of ethics on the part of the students. It is ironic, they’re writing an essay on ethics and they don’t have any.

6. Emotional Appeal Is the most common appeal Is an appeal made to someone’s emotion So the word choice and language is chosen carefully to appeal to someone else's emotions. Often uses loaded or charged words – emotional words Often it makes you feel bad or guilty unless you do whatever the person is promoting, asking for, or suggesting.

7. Emotional Appeal This is an example of the emotional appeal, that reminds us that we should not be calloused towards others

8. Is an appeal made to a person’s ability to reason This is the most effective type of appeal Appealing to logic is when you mention facts, details, and statistics

9. Logical: This is logical because the author is trying to persuade people, by using facts, to save their money during this economic hard ship. With all of the economic issues going on, it wouldn’t be logical to use your money on Christmas shopping.
