Warrant Singer Jani Lane Dead At
47

Jani Lane, the excitable lead singer of
the pop metal band Warrant, was
found dead in a hotel room at a
Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, Calif.,
on Thursday night. He was 47.
Warrant formed in 1984 and came to
prominence four years later with the
hits "Heaven" and "Down Boys" from
the band's debut album, "Dirty Rotten
Filthy Stinking Rich," which was written by Lane.
Their 1990 track "Cherry Pie" from the glam metal group's second album of the same
name may be best known for its salacious video featuring the model Bobbie Brown,
whom Lane married in 1991. They divorced two years later, but had a daughter,
Taylar. Lane also had another daughter from a second marriage.
Lane left Warrant numerous times, first in 1993 and then more permanently in 2004.
He reunited with his old bandmates one final time, in 2008.
One of Jani Lanes biggest regrets was writing "Cherry Pie." We should honor him by
playing something different like "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
How about playing "Heaven". If you were into pop metal, this is still a great song. That
is what he should be remembered for. Writing a great song, that is still great 20 years
later.
"Uncle Tom's Cabin" rocks. People seem to think only of "Cherry Pie," but Jani was a
talented guy and versatile songwriter. My heart goes out to his family, especially his
kids.
