Developmental Stage:  Adolescence Question:  Do teenage girls tend to share their feelings more than teenage boys? Hypothesis:  If asked to respond about relationships, secrets, personal problems, and innermost feelings, then teenage girls will be more likely to share than teenage boys.
Experiment:  Question teenage girls and boys about their feelings/their reactions to situations through the use of a survey.   Participants will be volunteers from Connelly, Rosary, and Servite.
Procedure:  -Hand out a survey to  12 guys and 12 girls (ages 16-18) to be filled out anonymously [the survey consists of 11 multiple choice questions and one optional short answer] -Collect the surveys -Record the data
If your friend needs help with a relationship problem,  what would you do?
When you are upset with someone, which of the following places would you tend to let your feelings come out?
When you have exciting news, who do you tell first?
If you see someone crying, what would you do?
If you are feeling sad and a friend comes up to you very happy and tells you some happy news, you

You are with a group of friends talking and having a good time. You notice that someone (who you are not close with) is sitting away from the group. Which of the following would you do?
If you have a crush on someone, what would you do?
What would you do if you knew your best friend’s boyfriend/girlfriend was cheating on them?
After a breakup, what would you do?
When a scandal happens at school, what do you do?
If a friend in your group has a strong disagreement with another friend in your group,  would you take sides?
[OPTIONAL]  Share your feelings about your most recent relationship
Conclusion:  Girls tend to share more of their feelings  than guys. The guys and girls were more evenly matched than we first assumed in the multiple choice section, though the girls tended to favor more personal connections with people over the guys. When given the opportunity to share a personal account however,  the amount of girls answering  was 10/12 versus 6/12 guys.
New Questions Raised:  -Is there a correlation between the willingness people have to talk about their relationships and how many relationships they have had?  -Does the age of the person vastly affect their responses to the survey questions? -Do people who are currently “happy” in their relationships express their feelings more or less than people who are “unhappy” in their relationships?
How the Experiment Could Be Improved Upon:  -More background information could be known about the participants  -More participants could be included -Vary the age brackets and see if there are any correlations -Create more questions covering more topics/aspects for the survey

  • 2. Developmental Stage: Adolescence Question: Do teenage girls tend to share their feelings more than teenage boys? Hypothesis: If asked to respond about relationships, secrets, personal problems, and innermost feelings, then teenage girls will be more likely to share than teenage boys.
  • 3. Experiment: Question teenage girls and boys about their feelings/their reactions to situations through the use of a survey. Participants will be volunteers from Connelly, Rosary, and Servite.
  • 4. Procedure: -Hand out a survey to 12 guys and 12 girls (ages 16-18) to be filled out anonymously [the survey consists of 11 multiple choice questions and one optional short answer] -Collect the surveys -Record the data

  • 20. Conclusion: Girls tend to share more of their feelings than guys. The guys and girls were more evenly matched than we first assumed in the multiple choice section, though the girls tended to favor more personal connections with people over the guys. When given the opportunity to share a personal account however, the amount of girls answering was 10/12 versus 6/12 guys.

New Questions Raised: -Is there a correlation between the willingness people have to talk about their relationships and how many relationships they have had? -Does the age of the person vastly affect their responses to the survey questions? -Do people who are currently “happy” in their relationships express their feelings more or less than people who are “unhappy” in their relationships?
  • 22. How the Experiment Could Be Improved Upon: -More background information could be known about the participants -More participants could be included -Vary the age brackets and see if there are any correlations -Create more questions covering more topics/aspects for the survey
