1. My Connection to the Gods
I am connected to all the gods, and I have a hard time choosing just two. I would
have to say that one god that I really feel connected to is definitely Dionysos. I also am
strongly influenced and grateful for Poseidon.
I am connected to Dionysos because I am greatly involved in Theatre and Drama,
which he is the god of. I feel like I would have no real purpose if there was no theatre.
Dionysos is also the god of high spirits, which is also something I think, is really important in
life. Without high spirits, I would be dull and never move on from something bad that
happens in life. Since he is the god of Theatre, I feel that whenever I step onto the stage, he
takes over my personality and things that I do. I know that he may be there when I mess up
a line or trip on stage. When I worship Dionysos, I take vines and a carved Satyr and Maenad
with me to Thebes, in Attica. I take those specific objects because those are his symbols. I
lay the objects down, to show him that I am thinking about him and sending my prayers. I
love looking around Thebes, because Thebes is where most myths take place. In my mind I
think of what the myth would look like. In my house, I have a special wine cup which is
called a Kantharos. I never drink out of it; it is just there for decoration. Another thing I do
for Dionysos is participating in The Great Dionysia, a festival which is held annually in
Athens. This festival is a theatre competition where there are tons of plays being performed
and at the end of the festival; a winner is chosen for the best playwright.
Poseidon is another god that I am deeply grateful for, even though he does have bad
temper, because this god is the god of the sea and horses. I feel connected to the sea
because I have always studied the fish and coral that live beneath it. I feel relaxed and calm
when I am by the ocean, which is a great thing to have. I also worship Poseidon because he
controls water, which is a necessity to any living thing, and without him controlling that, I
cannot even begin to comprehend how life would be like. I usually take a Trident decorated
with fish and dolphin to the temple dedicated to Poseidon on Cape Sounion, in Attica, and
give sacrifices to him. I give flowers, money, food, and sometimes I make a fish hook to
place in the temple as an offering. I give a fish hook to hopefully get in return calmer seas. I
always go to watch the Isthmian Games, held every two years. This festival is the second
most important game in Greece, right after The Olympics, held for Zeus.
