STOP
Find the safest place to cross then stop.
Stand on the pavement near the kerb or
the edge if there is no kerb.

Give yourself lots of time to have a
good look all around.
Make sure you can see if anything is
coming and drivers can see you.
Look
Listen carefully because
you can sometimes hear
traffic before you can see
it.

When it is safe to
cross, walk straight
across the road.

diagonally. Keep
looking and listening for
traffic while you cross.

pavement or footway,

pavement, walk on the right
hand side of the road to face
the traffic coming towards

Wait on the pavement
near the kerb until all the

you start to cross.

from both directions, walk
across on the black and
white stripes. (Zebra
cross)

Walk Facing Traffic: If there is
no sidewalk and you must walk
on the side of the road, choose the
side where you are facing
oncoming traffic.

Cell phone conversations
Text messaging
Listening to music on
mobile phone

Conversations with friends
Eating on the run
Attempting to find something in
a backpack or luggage
Reading a book or newspaper

Quickly walk across
the road when it is
clear.

Don't cross near or at
parked vehicles.
Don't cross at a corner
or bend in the road.

Walking at night
•Visibility on roads and paths is
often poor at night.
•Be seen - Always wear reflective
clothing when walking at night
e.g. Armband ,jacket.

•Also carry a flash light to
increase your visibility.
•Be safe - Walk with
someone else or somewhere
where people can see you.

Do not assume that vehicles
will stop. Check that they have
stopped before crossing.

and road signs and
the signals made by
Traffic Police

Safety awareness should begin
from childhood, as it is difficult to
impart awareness to a grown up a
human.
If safety awareness is imparted at
childhood, safety will be a habit.
