Future Energy Demand • The total installed name-plate capacity of the generating units in South Australia is currently 3505 megawatts (MW) • The Planning Council forecasts average growth of around 26 MW annually over the next decade • 2020,the demand will be 3812 MW, It will be over 5000 MW by 2050. Existing Plan for Energy ·In addition to the SASP target of meeting the Kyoto target by 2012, the Government has set a target for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 60% of 1990 levels by 2050. ·The Government will continue to encourage and facilitate the development of renewable energy production in South Australia, including solar, wind and geothermal power.
