1. Topic 2: What do you enjoy about shopping in HCM City? When I have free time, I sometimes do shopping at Ha Noi Highway Coop Mart because everything I need can be found there. I prefer to look at the goods, which are on display in shop windows. Before buying anything I consider its qualty and especially its price. To getn item at low prices, I have to go different shops to compare prices. The prices of things in big stores are usually fixed, so I don’t have to bargain. If I need to buy things in markets or small shops, I have to bargain because the sellers tend to give high prices when I ask them. To avoid buying valueless items, it’s better to do shopping in big stores because the owners often sell goods of high quality to keep their reputation. In sum, Doing shopping in HCM City is a trouble but rather interesting to me. Topic 3: Describe a time that you were ill. Everyone always wants to be healthy. In fact, they sometimes get sick. I’m not an exception. I remember that when I was a child, I often caught a cold. I thought it was the most terrible time in my life. I couldn’t go out, I couldn’t drink cold water whereas I had to wear warm clothes and bathe in warm water. The worst thing is that it made me feel tired all the time and I wasn’t allowed to eat anything except gruel, I don’t like it much. The only one thing that I felt happy when I was ill was the concern from my family, my friends and my teachers. Perhaps they gave me strength to overcome my illness. Anyway, we should make ourselves healthy by exercising regularly, eating suitably, etc. Topic 4: Talk about one of your favourite movies “Mother” is an excellent and emotional film about a Japanese mother and her five children. At the beginning of the film we meet a Japanese family-mother, father, and five sons. The mother devotes all her best days to rear her children with the help of her husband.; But after her two eldest sons have obtained fame and riches, and her husband died following an acute case of desperation brought by bankruptcy, she was compelled to earn her living by working as a dishwasher in a hospital because none of her sons care to look after her. Only her youngest son, the only who freely accepted to go to jail on an arson charge, committed by his father before his death, displays a tender love for her. It is the same son who, through his altruism, gradually wins back the elder prodicals. At the end of the film is that scene of a happy family with the reunion of mother and sons. I think this is the most meaningful film that I have ever seen. Topic 5: Show the way to get to where you live from school. I’m living in Thu Duc District and I am studying in HCMC University of Technical Teacher Training, so it’s not a long way for me to come home from school. I think it’s about 2 kilometers. I often ride to school. When I finish school, I take my bicycle and ride along VO VAN NGAN street, I keep riding till I reach the crossroad near Thu Duc Post Office and then I turn left to KHA VAN CAN stree and ride to my house. My house is near Thu Duc Market. It takes me about 15 minutes to come home from school. That’s all. Topic 8: What do you like and dislike about this university. I am studying in HCMC University of Technical Teacher Training and I’m very proud of being a student in this university because it gives me good education. As you can see, it has many faculties, so it’s not difficult for me to find a suitable profession. Besides that it has a large library with many books about technology, electronics, etc. However, there’s something that I don’t like. We are living in the university’s dormitory and our living condition is rather bad, our room is too small for six of us to live. The food in the canteen is not delicious and we have to eat out. Anyway, I love this university but I would like the university managing board to consider these problems so that we can have a better place to study. Topic 10: Give your friends some advice on how to learn English effectively. Nowadays, English is very popular because it’s very useful not only to broaden one’s knowledge but also to understand what the foreigners say. The thing is that not all of us can learn English as easily as the others. My friend is an example, he hates studies English because he don’t know many vocabularies and grammar points. So he cannot make a sentence and he feels afraid to speak English in class, he thinks that everyone will laugh at him. One day, I came to his room and told him my story. When I prepared an English lessons, I looked up some new words in a dictionary and translated the lesson into Vietnamese, then read it, after that I asked myself a lot of questions and answered them , then I listened to the cassette or CD player. After listening to two or three sentences, I paused it and wrote the sentences down and I did my homework before I went to school. In short, I hope my story will help him to improve his English and I think he will live this subject one day.
