3. i. Acknowledgement
First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude to our lecturer, Mr.
Shankar for giving us the golden opportunity to conduct a psychology theory video for our
Social Psychology final project. In addition to that, we would like to thank Mr. Shankar for
guiding us throughout this final project and we really appreciate his kindness for sending us
the lecture notes to us as it was very helpful for our final project.
Furthermore, we are grateful and would like to extend our sincere regards to all the
participants that were involved in this filming. Throughout this whole video, we would like
to thank all our friends who were willing to help us as we needed more people to conduct
this video filming.
Last but not least, we would like to thank our group members for cooperating with
each other and working hard as a group to complete this project. We divided our jobs
equally and would like to thank all our group members for their contribution. Also, we
would like to thank Taylor’s University for allowing us to conduct this filming in the
campus throughout the whole project.
4. ii. Introduction
In this final project, students are required to produce a video clip which includes five
psychological concepts in a group of 5 to 6 students. We were encouraged to use concepts
from various topics taught and discussed in class. The purpose of conducting this
assignment was to promote the application of social psychology concepts through real life
situations.
In addition to that, this assignment enhanced our creative thinking skills, teamwork
as well as other disciplines. This project was divided into two parts. The first part of this
project was recording a video clip designated to incorporate the social psychological
concepts taught in class as well as to complete a written report. As for the second part, we
had to conduct a group presentation in class on the submission day.
Lastly, this project has taught us how to apply social psychology concepts into real
world experiences.

Rosabella and Ong Ji En produced the script of the sketch. Ong Ji En who was also
the videographer for the filming of the sketch as well as the director together with
Rosabella. Tripod stands were often used to film the sketch when all members had to be in
one scene together or to produce a stabilised video.
During the filming process, group members studied the scenes carefully and
practiced the dialogues as well as carry out inter discussions among each other to avoid
misunderstandings and provide better ideas for the filming process.

7. iv. Discussion
a) Concept and Definition of Sketch
Each members of the the group were assigned to come up with different storylines
and concepts for our sketch. Finally, our team had made the choice and decided to choose
Pau Jin Wei’s idea for the sketch and improve it together.
Our sketch entitled “Tommy”. The general concept of the storyline is to show that
you should not “judge a book by its cover”. Just because a man has feminine qualities
doesn't make him gay. There's a difference between the two.
The leading role of this sketch is about a young man with feminine qualities who
people assumes to be ‘gay’ is prejudiced just because he dresses and acts a certain way. He
then finds out the girl that he has a crush on too thinks that he is ‘gay’ from a close friend.
He gets upset and his friend Mashruk persuades him into changing. Mashruk then teaches
Tommy how to act like a real man.
However, the sketch not only acts as an awareness to the audiences, it also reminds
the audiences it’s never too late to make the right change and walk the right path to a better
self.
Our main theme describes five social psychology concepts which are prejudice,
persuasion, self-awareness, social learning perspective and motivation.
8. b) Storyboard Design
Group discussions are held to understand and give suggestions on the techniques we
wished to use in the video through paper and pen. Furthermore, we improvised and
reinforced the message of the video and discussed about the application of five different
concepts in social psychology in five different scenes and merge them into a single
storyline.
Before processing to film the video, we sketched a visual storyboard that would help
and guide us through the filming process of the five concepts. In addition, we also wrote a
draft script for the video to provide the actors and actress a guideline to apply in the video.
However, our final storyboard however will have its difference compared to a hand
drawn storyboard.
11. d) Application and Analysis
Our video consists of five scenes that each shows a specific social psychology concept in
the story of “Tommy”. The analysis of each scene and the application of psychology
concepts in the scenes are explained below.
1. Scene One - Prejudice
Tommy introducing himself.
Description
Tommy introducing himself femininely and saying that people assume that he is ‘gay’ just
because he has feminine qualities.
12. Concept Definition
Prejudice- is an idea or opinion that is not based on fact, logic or actual experience.
Prejudice is usually referred to as a negative attitude, especially when it is a hatred or
intolerance for certain kinds of people.
Explanation
Prejudice is a destructive phenomenon, and it is pervasive because it serves many
psychological, social, and economic functions. Prejudice allows people to avoid doubt and
fear. Other than that, prejudice gives people scapegoats to blame in times of trouble.
Furthermore, prejudice legitimises discrimination because it apparently justifies one group’s
dominance over another.
Application
People’s social identities depend on the groups Tommy belongs to. From a person’s
perspective, any group he belongs to is an in-group, and any group he doesn’t belong to is
an out-group. People generally have a lower opinion of Tommy and assume that he is ‘gay’
because he dresses and acts in a feminine way.
13. 2. Scene Two - Persuasion
Tommy being persuaded by his cool friend, Tommy.
Description
Finding out from Aliman that Tommy’s crush, Bella already thinks that he is ‘gay’, Tommy
gets depressed and as seen in the picture above, Mashruk, Tommy’s cool friend tries to
persuade him into changing to a better behaviours and dressed Tommy.
Concept Definition
Persuasion - A process in which communicators try to convince other people to change their
attitudes or behaviour regarding an issue through the transmission of a message in an
atmosphere of free choice.
14. Explanation
Persuasion normally happens to change a person’s actions or mind-set of doing certain
things. There are two types of persuasion with on being a positive and the other being
negative persuasion. Positive persuasion helps people to stay away from negative doings
while a negative persuasion will lead to a person being involved in negative activities.
Application
Mashruk, Tommy’s cool friend persuaded Tommy to change for the better so that people
would stop assuming he is gay just because he dresses and acts in a feminine way but
actually he is not.
15. 3. Scene Three - Self-awareness
Description/Application
After being persuaded by his cool friend, Mashruk, Tommy realises that he needs to change
for the better.
Concept Definition
Self-awareness - The capacity for introspection and the ability to recognise oneself as an
individual separate from the environment and other individuals.
Explanation
Self awareness is having a clear perception about one’s self. It allows us to to understand
other people’s perception towards us, as well as our own thoughts and interpretations we
make in our mind. It is important to have self-awareness as it allows us to see how we can
control our behaviour and personality as well as make changes accordingly.
16. 4. Scene Four - Social Learning Perspective
Mashruk teaching tommy how to be a man.
Description/ Application
As seen in the picture, Mashruk teaching Tommy how to be a man. Other than that, Tommy
observing how Mashruk walk, talk and dresses. Tommy’s mindset of wanting to stop people
from assuming that he is gay and trying to impress Bella, his crush.
Concept Definition
Social Learning Perspective - Behaviour is learned from the environment through the
process of observational learning.
17. Explanation
Social learning perspective includes learning through the effect of psychological factors and
the responses to external stimuli. People normally learn to do something through the
exposure towards others’ behaviour or actions. An act is also learnt when a person has a
strong will towards the others’ actions, without considering whether it is negative or
positive.
18. 5. Scene Five- Motivation
Mashruk and Aliman motivating Tommy with positive words to approach Bella, his crush.
Description/ Application
Tommy’s main goal is to impress Bella, his crush and hoping that she will accept him as a
companion. As seen in the picture above, Mashruk and Aliman motivating Tommy with
positive words to approach Bella so that he will achieve his goals
Concept Definition
Motivation - The process that initiates, guides and maintain goals-oriented behaviours.
19. Explanation
Motivation is what causes us to act. There are two types of motivation, extrinsic and
intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation refers to an action taken in response to external
reward while intrinsic motivation arise from within the individual, where an action is taken
for the sake of enjoyment or believe of it as a positive action. In addition, an extrinsically
motivated person will do a task to avoid punishment or earn a specific reward.
20. v. Conclusion
All in all, this assignment most definitely helped all of us understand the concepts
and theories better. We now have a more in-depth understanding of the theories we chose as
well as the theories that we did not include in our video clip.
We would also like to express our gratitude to our lecturer, Mr. Shankar for helping
us throughout this whole semester. We thank him so much for allowing us to be his students
and we are undoubtedly grateful to be under his wings for this subject.
Last but not least, we would like to take a moment to appreciate each other’s
presence and ideas contributed throughout this whole preparation to complete our
assignment. The more man power and helping hands, the faster the task gets completed.
