6. WHERE DID VALENTINE’S DAY COME FROM? The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs, Saint Valentine. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines").
7. In Catholic tradition, St. Valentine was a priest who lived during the reign of Claudius the Cruel. It is said that this priest secretly married couples in love, in violation of the decision of the king. Valentine was a family servant for the young lovers who also wanted a family. When Emperor Claudius found out the secret , he ordered to be imprisoned.
8. Valentine was not only a priest, he also had healing powers. In prison he cured the daughter of a guard (of blindness), who was madly in love with her.
