5. Functions of Insulin’s family Builds and repairs body tissues Essential body processes ( water balancing, nutrient transport, and muscle contractions) require protein Source of energy

11. Type One Diabetes The body doesn’t produce insulin Only 5-10% of people with diabetes have this form Usually diagnosed in children and young adults Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar (glucose), starches, and other food into energy needed for daily life

12. Symptoms of Type One Frequent urination Unusual thirst Extreme hunger No more baby fat- weight loss Irritation and sleepiness

13. Type Two Diabetes Most common form of diabetes The body doesn’t produce enough insulin, or the cells ignore insulin Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use glucose for energy

14. Symptoms of Type Two Any of the type 1 symptoms Frequent infections Blurred vision Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal Tingling/numbness in the hands/feet Recurring skin, gum, or bladder infections

15. Gestational Diabetes During pregnancy (usually around 28 weeks) many women are diagnosed Doesn’t mean you have/ will have diabetes around birth Watch blood glucose levels (blood sugar) High blood sugar Too much insulin

16. Why we would be great parents We would be energetic parents because Insulin helps us burn glucose so that we can take care of him We would take care of Diabetes no matter which type it is By eating healthy and exercising We would show the same love and helping that our kids show for us
