Classroom Setting: Collaborative Model ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Following a new ‘push-in’ collaborative model, this classroom consists of one special education teacher and one general education teacher. There are approximately 9 special education students and 19 general education students. Having taught together for 4 years now, the two teachers are excellent co-teaching models.

What type of technology is being used on a daily basis? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Assignment as explained to the students: Based on nonfiction articles they have recently read, the students will pick a research topic. Before students read the article, they began a KWL chart about the topic. Now, after reading the articles, students still have many lingering questions about their topics. Using their newly developed research skills, students will research their remaining questions, create a power point summarizing their findings, and present the information to the class.

What type of technology is being used on a daily basis? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Phase One: Research After booking a computer lab for her students weeks in advance, the teacher is finally able to begin her research unit. Using the following website, students are allowed to exercise a bit of freedom in the sources from which they draw information. Instructional Resources

What type of technology is being used on a daily basis? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Phase Two: Creation of Power Point presentation Since many of the students are technologically savvy, they did not require much help getting started in Power Point. Saving their files to the network frequently, students were completely engaged and excited to report their research findings. As per their objectives, students were diligent about citing their resources. Their bibliographies were close to perfect since they were learning how to do them on a computer…the backspace key came in handy on those works cited pages!

What type of technology is being used on a daily basis? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Phase Three: Presentation Thanks to a local special tax, every classroom has been fitted with a ceiling mounted projector that can be connected to teacher laptops or the one student workstation in the classroom. The teacher I interviewed uses this on a daily basis for her warm-up and on a weekly basis for Power Point presentations. Because the Power Points were saved on the network, they were easily accessible for the students. Using Power Points allowed the students to show their creativity while displaying their ability to master the objectives.
