MANDARIN ORIENTAL, ATLANTA EMBRACES ITS ORIENTAL ORIGINS WITH
AN AUTHENTIC CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

Atlanta, January 9, 2013 – With its oriental origins, the new Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta is
hosting an authentic Chinese New Year celebration to honor the Chinese lunar calendar and
usher in the year of the snake.

On Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, guests will enjoy a lively reception
style event with festive delicacies, captivating lion dance performances, Asian ribbon dancers
and live snake demonstrations by Zoo Atlanta held in the hotel’s Oriental Ballroom. The hotel
will be elegantly adorned with authentic red and gold lanterns, ornate candles and other
traditional Chinese decorations.

The talented Mandarin Oriental culinary team will prepare an array of tantalizing Chinese
specialties including Whole Peking Duck carved to order with Scallion Pancakes and Hoisin
Sauce, Gulf Sesame Prawn Toast, Shredded Duck and Vegetable Spring Rolls, Steamed Whole
Ginger Crusted Red Snapper, Ginger Soy Marinated Tofu on Fresh Cucumber Slice, Crispy
Pork Wonton and an assortment of dainty dumpling selections.

For the Chinese, this celebration is the most important of the year symbolizing the Earth’s new
beginning. The Chinese culture utilizes a lunar calendar based on the moon’s cycle to create its
zodiac signs and twelve animals to represent the twelve signs of the Chinese horoscope.
According to the Chinese calendar, the snake represents a zodiac sign that is intelligent and
graceful.

True to tradition, rousing lion dance performances will capture the spirit of the season as they
skillfully make their way around the hotel to the mighty beat of drums and clashing cymbals – it
is said to bring good luck to households and the businesses they visit. All guests will receive a
‘red lai see packet’ filled with wishes of good health and good fortune.

The cost for the Chinese New Year event is USD 50 per person plus tax and gratuity and
includes complimentary valet parking. For more information or to make reservations, please call
