ASSIGNMENT 1 : INDIVIDUAL JOURNAL
09th November 2015 07:20pm
I went back to house earlier today, because I finish my assignment. Usually, I will be back
at midnight, but today was a little bit different. I saw my sister sitting infant of the television
and playing her iPhone, and I asked my sister about her PT3 trial examination result. I
asked her how was her result, was everything alright? She told me that she get really bad
result, and she started to complaint about her teacher wasn’t good enough for teaching.
She can’t get good result is because of her school teacher, my sister told me that her
school teacher doesn’t even know how to teach. I was very curious, she didn't get good
result is because of her teacher? Not because of herself? Thus, I asked her did you do
some revise when you have free time? Then, she started to complaint about her time, she
doesn’t have free time, but she’s here sitting in front of the television playing her iPhone.
Then I told her, currently in my life, I am going through this huge crisis on how to separate
my time properly but I still manage to separate my time properly for family, friends,
assignment, and even love ones. So, why can’t you? She started to complained that she
feel unhappy commits because everyone expects something out of her, and it’s really
possible to please everyone. What everyone does is to demand, demand and complain
that she’s not doing enough, but never have consider what she’ve already done for us.
Eventually, the things she love become the things she dread doing, her passion turn in to a
chore. Then, I told her that she actually can put down her phone now and go to study. If
you want you get good result, you have to study, good things doesn't come easy. Then, I
told her that you get bad result is not because of your teacher’s problem, is because of
your own problem. She never pay attention to the teacher whole teacher is teaching, she’s
actually sleeping at the back. A week before examination, she still procrastinating, sat in
front of television watching her favourite Korean drama. Teacher always complained about
my sister, but my mother just ignores it all the time because my mother always focuses on
her business. To prevent argument, my mother ended this topic and asked my sister about
her mathematics examination result because my mother knows my sister is good in
mathematics. Suddenly, my sister’s face turned to a very proud and happy face. She said
that she got A for her mathematics exam. I was very shocked, I was like ”Wow, how did
you do that? Good job.” She was very proud, and she said : “Of course, I study myself, I
don’t need mathematics teacher but I still managed to get A.” I know my sister too well,
she tends to attribute positive events to her own character but attribute negative events to
external factors. She started to complain that going to mathematics tuition classes is just a
waste of class, even she skipped a lot of classes she still managed to get an A for her
mathematics test. She was so overrated, I can’t stand it anymore. So, I told her that if she
managed to get an A for mathematics why not for other subjects as well? If she can study
mathematics herself and still managed to get an A, she can study other subjects but she
managed to get A right? There she goes again, she started to complained that other
subjects’ teacher marking criteria is very straight, no chances are given. Besides, the text
questions are so unclear, the pictures printed not clearly, some of printed text papers looks
like the printer is running out of ink. I am not sure about the problem but I think is because
she lazy to study others subjects that’s why she came up with a lot of excuses. Basically,
she only studies mathematics, other subjects is a “no” for her. Then, I encourage her to
study well in order to get good results. Concentrate on her studies, during school breaks,
she can do whatever she wants to. I told her that, If you said that you didn't do well
because you didn't study enough. This is an internal attribution, you have to control over
whether you want to study or not. And the reason is based on your traits or actions.
However, if you said that you didn't do well because the questions were badly written. This
is an external attributions and you can't control whether the teacher makes a fair test or not
and the questions are clear or not. Thus, this reason is about the world around you, not
about you and your strengths and weaknesses.

I was having lunch with my friends this afternoon at Zhia’s Kitchen. They started to discuss
about what thing that only man can do but woman can’t do. Chester, which is one of my
close friend, he said girls aren’t as smart as boy. It is a totally opposite opinion my mind.
Why boys think girls aren't as smart as boys? Just because there more successful men
than successful women? However, there is a saying, “Behind every successful man, there
is a strong, wise and hardworking woman.” All of the girls were disagree with him, because
quite a numbers of girls from my gang are very smart, both of them got full A for their SPM
results, which is a very tough task for me to achieve it. We wanted to prove Chester’s
opinion is wrong. So, we decided to do an additional mathematics test in order to prove
that Chester has a wrong opinion. Also, to prove that “girl aren’t as smart as boy” is just a
common stereotype, I searched the hardest and the most confuse additional mathematics
question on google. Chester and Candice did the question. Candice took around 3 minutes
to finish the question, while Chester took about 5 to 6 minutes to finish the question. All of
the girls laughed at him, and said that his opinion is a common stereotype, and he was
quite recalcitrant and he said Candice quite lucky today that’s why she can finished the
additional mathematics question in just 3 minutes, because girls can’t do as good of a job
as a boy. After Chester said women can’t do as good as a job as a man, I was quite mad
at first and I contradict him defiantly , I said : “Where do boys get off thinking they are
better than girls? Have you seen the difference in powerpoint project quality?” After that,
Damon which is also one of my close friend, he said boys are strong and do all the work,
boys are the “backbone”. At first, I was quite confused about the word “backbone”. What
do you mean backbone? Our body’s backbone? So, I asked my friend Stella, because she
was sitting beside of me. And, she told me that boys are the “backbone” means boys can
do everything, boys are strong. Yes, boys are strong, but girls could be strong as well. Do
you think is easy to walk out from a pass relationship? Do you think is easy to act like
everything is alright when the problem keeps comes to you? What do you means boys can
do everything? Obviously girls can do everything as well, girls can cook, girls can draw,
can write, can bake, literally everything. Then, all the boys were quite unhappy because
we keep saying that girls are better than boys. In fact, we were not. We were just trying to
proof the boys, all of the things that they’ve just mentioned are just some common
stereotypes that I’ve heard almost 999 times in my entire life. Then, boys said that girls are
not good at sports. Yes, this might be correct, but some of the girls are really good at
sports. Like hello, who says all the girls are not good sports? Look at Veronica Campbell-
Brown, she won 7 Olympic medals and yes, she is a girl. Irena Szewinska, a sprinter as
well as a long jumper, and she won 7 Olympic medals as well, she has broke the world
records with 100-m, 200-m and 400-m. I do not understand why boys keep having these
kind of stereotypes in their minds. To prevent from argument, we ended this topic. Then
again, the boys started to talk about the cultures stereotypes. They said all arabs and
muslims are terrorists. We were quite confused at first, we were like “Huh? Why? Wow,
you think you Jesus ah? Can know everything?” Chester was scrolling through Twitter,
which is a social media, he saw a post. The post have noted, Muslims make up a small
proportion of terrorists in the Americas and part of Europe. However, it is not true to clim
that this is the case globally. Chester also said that most of the terrorist attacks were
carried out by Muslims, this was also the case for 21 of the top 25 countries. Stereotypical
representations of Arabs and Muslims are often manifested in a society’s media, literature,
theater and other creative expressions. Suddenly, Chester came up with a funny joke. He
said that all people who live in England have bad teeth, Italian or French people are the
best lovers because they live in the city of love. Stereotyping is not only hurtful, it is also
false. Even if the stereotype is true in some cases, constantly putting someone down
based on your biased judgement will not cheer them to succeed.

The Halo effect is probably the most common bias in performance appraisal. If you’re
pretty, you get more advantages. If you are not that pretty as Cara Delevingne or those
KPOP celebrities, sorry, you’ll get treated like how people treat an auntie. When I was 16
years old, I met a guy and his name is Caspar Lee. Caspar Lee is a handsome and smart
guy, every girl in my school admire him. Yesterday, my public communication teacher, Ms
Lojana asked whoever wants to volunteer as a helper for a social experiment program. We
found out that Caspar Lee is actually the organiser for this social experiment program.
Without any doubts, quite a numbers of girls have volunteered for this social experiment
program. But, only me and Andrea Wong, which is one of my best girl friend have passed
the requirements for this program. People said we passed these requirements is because
of our physical appearances and we are campus belle, which we used to call it “school
flowers” in Chinese but me and Andrea don’t think it’s true. So, we had a lot of meetings
and rehearsals with Caspar Lee. We are required to make a video to show how people
react when me, Andrea Wong and Caspar Lee lost our phones and ask for strangers’ help.
This morning, all of us are very excited for this social experiment program. I received a call
from Caspar Lee yesterday and he asked me to dress like an old-fashioned lady, this is
because Caspar Lee wants to test on the difference between people’s reaction, I will be
playing an old-fashioned lady and Andrea Wong will be playing a hot and flawless lady. So,
I wore my mother’s navy blue and white grid blouse with a nude brown long pants and a
pair of old-fashioned blue sneakers that my mother bought for my birthday present when I
was 13 years old. Also, I borrowed a bold red lipstick from Andrea Wong and drew some
dots on my cheeks as well as my necks, and I wore a nerdy glasses as well. So, Caspar
Lee told me that I was the first people who started the social experiment shooting. I was
very excited and nervous at the same time. During the social experiment, no one wants to
help me or either borrow his or her phone to me. When I walked to strangers, all of them

moved away from me, some of them doesn’t give a shit about me, and a bunch of
teenagers look down towards me and gave me an “Ew” sound. I was very angry at first,
but Caspar Lee and Andrea Wong chilled me down and they told me that we are doing a
social experiment. Why are we doing this social experiment? We do all of these is because
we wanted to see how people react on different people or even different physical
appearance. Moving on, Andrea continue the social experiment shooting. Andrea’s task is
to act like a hot and flawless lady. So, Andrea wore a white tank top from Zara, a pair of
ripped denim shorts with a black Nike roshe-run sport shoes which cost about RM500+
and yes, Caspar Lee requested it. There were a lot of boys wanted to help Andrea to find
her phone. Some more, quite a numbers of boys asked for Andrea’s phone number and
asked for a date and some stuff like that. Next, Caspar Lee continue the social experiment
shoot. Caspar Lee’s social experiment was very similar to Andrea’s social experiment,
there’s a lot of girls who wanted to help Caspar Lee to search for his phone. This social
experiment has been an eye-opening experience for me as it taught me to develop deeper
understanding for social psychology. I couldn’t believe the halo effect could be so effective.
People tends to believe what’s beautiful is good and what’s ugly is bad. For example, me
act like an old-fashioned lady, no one wants to help me or even give a shit about me.
Andrea Wong, the hot and flawless lady, if there’s a stage for Andrea Wong to announce
that she lost her phone, I think every boys volunteer to help her. Throughout this social
experiment, I’ve learned a lot about the halo effect. The halo effect refers to the habitual
tendency of people to rate attractive individuals more favourably for their personality traits
or characteristics than those who are less attractive. Because of my look, people might
think that I am a liar or even a bad girl trying to steal his or her phone? Strangers who
helped Andrea and Chester is because they have nice physical appearance, nice and hot
body, nice attitudes, nice hair, nice skin or they just really want to help?

After I done all my assignment, I decided to take a walk at the playground near my house.
Francisco, which is my little brother, he is only 4 years old, with a black short hair, chubby
rosy cheeks, pinky cute tiny little lips. He wanted to follow me to the playground, so I
decided to bring him along. After changing, I took my house keys and locked the door
before I leave my house. I looked at my brother, standing behind him on the way to the
playground that near my house. His pants are a little too big and his bright neon orange
colour shirt stands out the most. When we reached the playground, he rans to the sand
play area, because my little brother loves sands a lot, and I have no idea why he loves
sands that much. I sat on a bench beside the see-saw area and I looked across the sand
play area to see my little brother sitting on the ground. Fragile and pale as he sat on the
ground playing with the sands. His black and brown eyes both reflected from the sunlight. I
watched him enjoyed the loneliness to himself as he made “waaa”, “wuuuu”, as well as
some laugh noises. Suddenly, a bunch of kids laughing and he snapped his head up. He
looked at the kids with a very surprising eyes. The children were playing hide and seek at
the playground. My little brother’s eyes glistening and he looked like very interested in it,
but he never plays hide and seek before in his entire life. He was very curious and he
wanted to join the group, but he do not what to do. So he stood up and walked to me. He
asked me whether he can joins that bunch of kids or not. I allowed him to play with the
kids, but I am worried about my little brother, so I asked him to sit down and watch how the
kids play first. He sat quietly beside me on the bench, and he observed how the kids play
hide and seek. He observed about everything, how the kids hide, where the kids hide, the
timing, where is the best place to hide. After observing the children play hide and seek, my
little brother quickly learns the basic rules of the game and joins in. I was very happy that
my little brother is so clever, he’s able to learn how to play hide and seek by observing
other children’s action. He met a group of new friends, they play hide and seek happily,

while I continue read my novel. Suddenly, I heard a very loud voice, someone was crying
and shouting. I was very worried about it, because I was worried about my brother, I’m not
sure that person is my brother to other children. So, I ran to the place where a group of
children was surrounding. I saw my little brother was doing violence, he was punching a
little boy. I was very shocked and angry, I quickly stop him and pull him away. That boy’s
mother came, she was very angry and I apologised to her. I was very angry, and I asked
my little brother why did you do that? Why did you do violence? Why you punch that little
boy? He yelled at me, saying “Because he hide the place that I wanted to hide. I asked
him to move away, I told him that is my place. He ignore me, I was very angry, so I punch
him. Every guy in my school does that, I learned from them. They can do violence, why
can’t I?” I was very shocked, I never knew that my little brother’s classmates are doing
violence all the time, and my brother learn from them by observing them do violence day
by day. I never knew that observational learning can be a powerful learning tool.
Observational learning can linked to a positive behaviour as well as a negative behaviour.
Observational Learning tends to be the most common during childhood as children learn
from the authority figures and peers in their lives. My little brother and I went back home,
he straight away cried when he saw my mother. I told my mother about the incident, my
mother was very mad and shocked at the same time. She punished my little brother and
my mother told my little brother violence is totally not a good way to solve problem, it will
create more trouble, my mother teach my little brother how to behave and responds to
others. Today has been an eye-opening experience for me as it taught me a lots, now I
finally know that observational learning plays an important role in the socialisation process,
as children learn how to behave and respond to others by observing how people
caregivers interact with each other.

I received a phone call from my best friend yesterday. He is a guy, his name is Aloysius. At
first, I was quite shocked when he call me. So, I answered his phone call without any
doubts. He told me that he broke up with his girlfriend, which is also one of my best friend,
Denise. And then, Aloysius asked me did Denise told me anything before, I was a little bit
blur plus confuse, I asked him with a “no”. Aloysius was very worried, but I don’t know what
he’s worried about, and he asked for my help. At first, I rejected, but he begged him, and it
seems like a very terrible incident, so I asked him to tell me every single thing so that I can
help him. Hence, he told me every single thing about their relationship. He told me that he
fell in love with another girl long time ago, and yes he is actually with another girl. He
decided not to tell Denise, because he do not dare, he is afraid that Denise might get hurt
or some stuff like that. So that, he went out with the girl last night to the bar. Denise
whatsapp message Aloysius and asked him where was him last night. Aloysius cheated on
Denise, and said he was in his friend’s house, while he is actually in the bar with the girl.
Aloysius don't know how Denise found out that he was cheating at her, Denise came up to
the bar last night and broke up with Aloysius. Aloysius was very worried about Denise, he
is afraid that Denise would commit suicide or something like that. So, Aloysius called me
and he said that he was very guilty and asked for my help to take care of her to make him
feel better for himself. I was very angry at first, I rejected him but Denise is my best friend,
I don’t want she to get hurt, I decided to helped Aloysius. This morning, when I was on my
way to school, Aloysius stopped in front of me, he gave me a tupperware, inside the
tupperware is a healthy chicken sandwiches, and yes, is Denise’s favourite. Aloysius
asked me to pass it to Denise, he said he can’t finish it, so that he asked me to pass to
her, but I don’t think he can’t finish the sandwich, some more the sandwich looks nice.
Thus, I decided to help him to pass this tupperware to Denise. When I reached campus, I
text Denise and asked her to meet up. When I saw Denise, I passed the tupperware to her,
and she asked me, was it from Aloysius. I don’t know what to say, so I didn’t say anything.
She took over the tupperware and ran away. I was very worried, so I follow at her back.
She went to find Aloysius, I hide at the back of the wall, because I don’t want to disturb
them. And yes, I heard all of the conversation between Denise and Aloysius. And I found
out that Aloysius wanted me to be the middle person, Aloysius was very guilty and he
wanted to make Denise feel better in order to overcome his guiltiness. I felt very stupid for
helping Aloysius, I thought Aloysius really want to help Denise to move on from this pass
relationship, I never knew that Aloysius do all of these just because he wanted to make
himself feel better. Aloysius told Denise that he was very worried about her, Aloysius
wanted to help Denise to move on so that Aloysius can feel better for himself. Denise told
Aloysius the feeling that Denise feel is the pain of losing someone who once dedicated
their entire life to her. She said to him, “If you really want me to move forward, just get out
of my life, please don’t do some stupid things and telling me that you’re help me, in fact,
you’re just making yourself feel better.” According to egoistic model, where Aloysius do so
ultimately because of his personal benefits that himself expect to obtain, directly or
indirectly, from doing so. Egoistic model is where Aloysius help Denise just for his own
benefit, to make himself feel better. I feel really sad for Denise, even I’m not involve in this
incident, but I still can feel the pain that Denise is going through. They say love is blind, but
I don’t think it is. In fact, love makes you see everything, the good and the bad, yet
overlook the flaws. So when I said I figured out how it’s possible leave someone you love?
I guess my answer is that, if you love them enough, let them go, and if they were to come
back for you, the were always yours. If they don’t, they never were.

Girls Outperform Boys in Math Test, Defy Stereotypes

  • 1. NAME : CHANG HUEY YI STUDENT ID : 0322898 INTAKE : JANUARY 2015 MODULE NAME : SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY MODULE CODE : PSYC0103 ASSIGNMENT 1 : INDIVIDUAL JOURNAL
  • 2. 09th November 2015 07:20pm I went back to house earlier today, because I finish my assignment. Usually, I will be back at midnight, but today was a little bit different. I saw my sister sitting infant of the television and playing her iPhone, and I asked my sister about her PT3 trial examination result. I asked her how was her result, was everything alright? She told me that she get really bad result, and she started to complaint about her teacher wasn’t good enough for teaching. She can’t get good result is because of her school teacher, my sister told me that her school teacher doesn’t even know how to teach. I was very curious, she didn't get good result is because of her teacher? Not because of herself? Thus, I asked her did you do some revise when you have free time? Then, she started to complaint about her time, she doesn’t have free time, but she’s here sitting in front of the television playing her iPhone. Then I told her, currently in my life, I am going through this huge crisis on how to separate my time properly but I still manage to separate my time properly for family, friends, assignment, and even love ones. So, why can’t you? She started to complained that she feel unhappy commits because everyone expects something out of her, and it’s really possible to please everyone. What everyone does is to demand, demand and complain that she’s not doing enough, but never have consider what she’ve already done for us. Eventually, the things she love become the things she dread doing, her passion turn in to a chore. Then, I told her that she actually can put down her phone now and go to study. If you want you get good result, you have to study, good things doesn't come easy. Then, I told her that you get bad result is not because of your teacher’s problem, is because of your own problem. She never pay attention to the teacher whole teacher is teaching, she’s actually sleeping at the back. A week before examination, she still procrastinating, sat in front of television watching her favourite Korean drama. Teacher always complained about my sister, but my mother just ignores it all the time because my mother always focuses on her business. To prevent argument, my mother ended this topic and asked my sister about
  • 3. her mathematics examination result because my mother knows my sister is good in mathematics. Suddenly, my sister’s face turned to a very proud and happy face. She said that she got A for her mathematics exam. I was very shocked, I was like ”Wow, how did you do that? Good job.” She was very proud, and she said : “Of course, I study myself, I don’t need mathematics teacher but I still managed to get A.” I know my sister too well, she tends to attribute positive events to her own character but attribute negative events to external factors. She started to complain that going to mathematics tuition classes is just a waste of class, even she skipped a lot of classes she still managed to get an A for her mathematics test. She was so overrated, I can’t stand it anymore. So, I told her that if she managed to get an A for mathematics why not for other subjects as well? If she can study mathematics herself and still managed to get an A, she can study other subjects but she managed to get A right? There she goes again, she started to complained that other subjects’ teacher marking criteria is very straight, no chances are given. Besides, the text questions are so unclear, the pictures printed not clearly, some of printed text papers looks like the printer is running out of ink. I am not sure about the problem but I think is because she lazy to study others subjects that’s why she came up with a lot of excuses. Basically, she only studies mathematics, other subjects is a “no” for her. Then, I encourage her to study well in order to get good results. Concentrate on her studies, during school breaks, she can do whatever she wants to. I told her that, If you said that you didn't do well because you didn't study enough. This is an internal attribution, you have to control over whether you want to study or not. And the reason is based on your traits or actions. However, if you said that you didn't do well because the questions were badly written. This is an external attributions and you can't control whether the teacher makes a fair test or not and the questions are clear or not. Thus, this reason is about the world around you, not about you and your strengths and weaknesses. (804 words)

  • 4. 16th October 2015 09:01pm I was having lunch with my friends this afternoon at Zhia’s Kitchen. They started to discuss about what thing that only man can do but woman can’t do. Chester, which is one of my close friend, he said girls aren’t as smart as boy. It is a totally opposite opinion my mind. Why boys think girls aren't as smart as boys? Just because there more successful men than successful women? However, there is a saying, “Behind every successful man, there is a strong, wise and hardworking woman.” All of the girls were disagree with him, because quite a numbers of girls from my gang are very smart, both of them got full A for their SPM results, which is a very tough task for me to achieve it. We wanted to prove Chester’s opinion is wrong. So, we decided to do an additional mathematics test in order to prove that Chester has a wrong opinion. Also, to prove that “girl aren’t as smart as boy” is just a common stereotype, I searched the hardest and the most confuse additional mathematics question on google. Chester and Candice did the question. Candice took around 3 minutes to finish the question, while Chester took about 5 to 6 minutes to finish the question. All of the girls laughed at him, and said that his opinion is a common stereotype, and he was quite recalcitrant and he said Candice quite lucky today that’s why she can finished the additional mathematics question in just 3 minutes, because girls can’t do as good of a job as a boy. After Chester said women can’t do as good as a job as a man, I was quite mad at first and I contradict him defiantly , I said : “Where do boys get off thinking they are better than girls? Have you seen the difference in powerpoint project quality?” After that, Damon which is also one of my close friend, he said boys are strong and do all the work, boys are the “backbone”. At first, I was quite confused about the word “backbone”. What do you mean backbone? Our body’s backbone? So, I asked my friend Stella, because she was sitting beside of me. And, she told me that boys are the “backbone” means boys can do everything, boys are strong. Yes, boys are strong, but girls could be strong as well. Do you think is easy to walk out from a pass relationship? Do you think is easy to act like
  • 5. everything is alright when the problem keeps comes to you? What do you means boys can do everything? Obviously girls can do everything as well, girls can cook, girls can draw, can write, can bake, literally everything. Then, all the boys were quite unhappy because we keep saying that girls are better than boys. In fact, we were not. We were just trying to proof the boys, all of the things that they’ve just mentioned are just some common stereotypes that I’ve heard almost 999 times in my entire life. Then, boys said that girls are not good at sports. Yes, this might be correct, but some of the girls are really good at sports. Like hello, who says all the girls are not good sports? Look at Veronica Campbell- Brown, she won 7 Olympic medals and yes, she is a girl. Irena Szewinska, a sprinter as well as a long jumper, and she won 7 Olympic medals as well, she has broke the world records with 100-m, 200-m and 400-m. I do not understand why boys keep having these kind of stereotypes in their minds. To prevent from argument, we ended this topic. Then again, the boys started to talk about the cultures stereotypes. They said all arabs and muslims are terrorists. We were quite confused at first, we were like “Huh? Why? Wow, you think you Jesus ah? Can know everything?” Chester was scrolling through Twitter, which is a social media, he saw a post. The post have noted, Muslims make up a small proportion of terrorists in the Americas and part of Europe. However, it is not true to clim that this is the case globally. Chester also said that most of the terrorist attacks were carried out by Muslims, this was also the case for 21 of the top 25 countries. Stereotypical representations of Arabs and Muslims are often manifested in a society’s media, literature, theater and other creative expressions. Suddenly, Chester came up with a funny joke. He said that all people who live in England have bad teeth, Italian or French people are the best lovers because they live in the city of love. Stereotyping is not only hurtful, it is also false. Even if the stereotype is true in some cases, constantly putting someone down based on your biased judgement will not cheer them to succeed. (815 words)
  • 6. 19th September 2015 11:33pm The Halo effect is probably the most common bias in performance appraisal. If you’re pretty, you get more advantages. If you are not that pretty as Cara Delevingne or those KPOP celebrities, sorry, you’ll get treated like how people treat an auntie. When I was 16 years old, I met a guy and his name is Caspar Lee. Caspar Lee is a handsome and smart guy, every girl in my school admire him. Yesterday, my public communication teacher, Ms Lojana asked whoever wants to volunteer as a helper for a social experiment program. We found out that Caspar Lee is actually the organiser for this social experiment program. Without any doubts, quite a numbers of girls have volunteered for this social experiment program. But, only me and Andrea Wong, which is one of my best girl friend have passed the requirements for this program. People said we passed these requirements is because of our physical appearances and we are campus belle, which we used to call it “school flowers” in Chinese but me and Andrea don’t think it’s true. So, we had a lot of meetings and rehearsals with Caspar Lee. We are required to make a video to show how people react when me, Andrea Wong and Caspar Lee lost our phones and ask for strangers’ help. This morning, all of us are very excited for this social experiment program. I received a call from Caspar Lee yesterday and he asked me to dress like an old-fashioned lady, this is because Caspar Lee wants to test on the difference between people’s reaction, I will be playing an old-fashioned lady and Andrea Wong will be playing a hot and flawless lady. So, I wore my mother’s navy blue and white grid blouse with a nude brown long pants and a pair of old-fashioned blue sneakers that my mother bought for my birthday present when I was 13 years old. Also, I borrowed a bold red lipstick from Andrea Wong and drew some dots on my cheeks as well as my necks, and I wore a nerdy glasses as well. So, Caspar Lee told me that I was the first people who started the social experiment shooting. I was very excited and nervous at the same time. During the social experiment, no one wants to help me or either borrow his or her phone to me. When I walked to strangers, all of them

  • 7. moved away from me, some of them doesn’t give a shit about me, and a bunch of teenagers look down towards me and gave me an “Ew” sound. I was very angry at first, but Caspar Lee and Andrea Wong chilled me down and they told me that we are doing a social experiment. Why are we doing this social experiment? We do all of these is because we wanted to see how people react on different people or even different physical appearance. Moving on, Andrea continue the social experiment shooting. Andrea’s task is to act like a hot and flawless lady. So, Andrea wore a white tank top from Zara, a pair of ripped denim shorts with a black Nike roshe-run sport shoes which cost about RM500+ and yes, Caspar Lee requested it. There were a lot of boys wanted to help Andrea to find her phone. Some more, quite a numbers of boys asked for Andrea’s phone number and asked for a date and some stuff like that. Next, Caspar Lee continue the social experiment shoot. Caspar Lee’s social experiment was very similar to Andrea’s social experiment, there’s a lot of girls who wanted to help Caspar Lee to search for his phone. This social experiment has been an eye-opening experience for me as it taught me to develop deeper understanding for social psychology. I couldn’t believe the halo effect could be so effective. People tends to believe what’s beautiful is good and what’s ugly is bad. For example, me act like an old-fashioned lady, no one wants to help me or even give a shit about me. Andrea Wong, the hot and flawless lady, if there’s a stage for Andrea Wong to announce that she lost her phone, I think every boys volunteer to help her. Throughout this social experiment, I’ve learned a lot about the halo effect. The halo effect refers to the habitual tendency of people to rate attractive individuals more favourably for their personality traits or characteristics than those who are less attractive. Because of my look, people might think that I am a liar or even a bad girl trying to steal his or her phone? Strangers who helped Andrea and Chester is because they have nice physical appearance, nice and hot body, nice attitudes, nice hair, nice skin or they just really want to help? (807 words)
  • 8. 2nd November 2015 05:43pm After I done all my assignment, I decided to take a walk at the playground near my house. Francisco, which is my little brother, he is only 4 years old, with a black short hair, chubby rosy cheeks, pinky cute tiny little lips. He wanted to follow me to the playground, so I decided to bring him along. After changing, I took my house keys and locked the door before I leave my house. I looked at my brother, standing behind him on the way to the playground that near my house. His pants are a little too big and his bright neon orange colour shirt stands out the most. When we reached the playground, he rans to the sand play area, because my little brother loves sands a lot, and I have no idea why he loves sands that much. I sat on a bench beside the see-saw area and I looked across the sand play area to see my little brother sitting on the ground. Fragile and pale as he sat on the ground playing with the sands. His black and brown eyes both reflected from the sunlight. I watched him enjoyed the loneliness to himself as he made “waaa”, “wuuuu”, as well as some laugh noises. Suddenly, a bunch of kids laughing and he snapped his head up. He looked at the kids with a very surprising eyes. The children were playing hide and seek at the playground. My little brother’s eyes glistening and he looked like very interested in it, but he never plays hide and seek before in his entire life. He was very curious and he wanted to join the group, but he do not what to do. So he stood up and walked to me. He asked me whether he can joins that bunch of kids or not. I allowed him to play with the kids, but I am worried about my little brother, so I asked him to sit down and watch how the kids play first. He sat quietly beside me on the bench, and he observed how the kids play hide and seek. He observed about everything, how the kids hide, where the kids hide, the timing, where is the best place to hide. After observing the children play hide and seek, my little brother quickly learns the basic rules of the game and joins in. I was very happy that my little brother is so clever, he’s able to learn how to play hide and seek by observing other children’s action. He met a group of new friends, they play hide and seek happily,

  • 9. while I continue read my novel. Suddenly, I heard a very loud voice, someone was crying and shouting. I was very worried about it, because I was worried about my brother, I’m not sure that person is my brother to other children. So, I ran to the place where a group of children was surrounding. I saw my little brother was doing violence, he was punching a little boy. I was very shocked and angry, I quickly stop him and pull him away. That boy’s mother came, she was very angry and I apologised to her. I was very angry, and I asked my little brother why did you do that? Why did you do violence? Why you punch that little boy? He yelled at me, saying “Because he hide the place that I wanted to hide. I asked him to move away, I told him that is my place. He ignore me, I was very angry, so I punch him. Every guy in my school does that, I learned from them. They can do violence, why can’t I?” I was very shocked, I never knew that my little brother’s classmates are doing violence all the time, and my brother learn from them by observing them do violence day by day. I never knew that observational learning can be a powerful learning tool. Observational learning can linked to a positive behaviour as well as a negative behaviour. Observational Learning tends to be the most common during childhood as children learn from the authority figures and peers in their lives. My little brother and I went back home, he straight away cried when he saw my mother. I told my mother about the incident, my mother was very mad and shocked at the same time. She punished my little brother and my mother told my little brother violence is totally not a good way to solve problem, it will create more trouble, my mother teach my little brother how to behave and responds to others. Today has been an eye-opening experience for me as it taught me a lots, now I finally know that observational learning plays an important role in the socialisation process, as children learn how to behave and respond to others by observing how people caregivers interact with each other. • 10. 10th November 2015 08:38pm I received a phone call from my best friend yesterday. He is a guy, his name is Aloysius. At first, I was quite shocked when he call me. So, I answered his phone call without any doubts. He told me that he broke up with his girlfriend, which is also one of my best friend, Denise. And then, Aloysius asked me did Denise told me anything before, I was a little bit blur plus confuse, I asked him with a “no”. Aloysius was very worried, but I don’t know what he’s worried about, and he asked for my help. At first, I rejected, but he begged him, and it seems like a very terrible incident, so I asked him to tell me every single thing so that I can help him. Hence, he told me every single thing about their relationship. He told me that he fell in love with another girl long time ago, and yes he is actually with another girl. He decided not to tell Denise, because he do not dare, he is afraid that Denise might get hurt or some stuff like that. So that, he went out with the girl last night to the bar. Denise whatsapp message Aloysius and asked him where was him last night. Aloysius cheated on Denise, and said he was in his friend’s house, while he is actually in the bar with the girl. Aloysius don't know how Denise found out that he was cheating at her, Denise came up to the bar last night and broke up with Aloysius. Aloysius was very worried about Denise, he is afraid that Denise would commit suicide or something like that. So, Aloysius called me and he said that he was very guilty and asked for my help to take care of her to make him feel better for himself. I was very angry at first, I rejected him but Denise is my best friend, I don’t want she to get hurt, I decided to helped Aloysius. This morning, when I was on my way to school, Aloysius stopped in front of me, he gave me a tupperware, inside the tupperware is a healthy chicken sandwiches, and yes, is Denise’s favourite. Aloysius asked me to pass it to Denise, he said he can’t finish it, so that he asked me to pass to her, but I don’t think he can’t finish the sandwich, some more the sandwich looks nice. Thus, I decided to help him to pass this tupperware to Denise. When I reached campus, I text Denise and asked her to meet up. When I saw Denise, I passed the tupperware to her,
  • 11. and she asked me, was it from Aloysius. I don’t know what to say, so I didn’t say anything. She took over the tupperware and ran away. I was very worried, so I follow at her back. She went to find Aloysius, I hide at the back of the wall, because I don’t want to disturb them. And yes, I heard all of the conversation between Denise and Aloysius. And I found out that Aloysius wanted me to be the middle person, Aloysius was very guilty and he wanted to make Denise feel better in order to overcome his guiltiness. I felt very stupid for helping Aloysius, I thought Aloysius really want to help Denise to move on from this pass relationship, I never knew that Aloysius do all of these just because he wanted to make himself feel better. Aloysius told Denise that he was very worried about her, Aloysius wanted to help Denise to move on so that Aloysius can feel better for himself. Denise told Aloysius the feeling that Denise feel is the pain of losing someone who once dedicated their entire life to her. She said to him, “If you really want me to move forward, just get out of my life, please don’t do some stupid things and telling me that you’re help me, in fact, you’re just making yourself feel better.” According to egoistic model, where Aloysius do so ultimately because of his personal benefits that himself expect to obtain, directly or indirectly, from doing so. Egoistic model is where Aloysius help Denise just for his own benefit, to make himself feel better. I feel really sad for Denise, even I’m not involve in this incident, but I still can feel the pain that Denise is going through. They say love is blind, but I don’t think it is. In fact, love makes you see everything, the good and the bad, yet overlook the flaws. So when I said I figured out how it’s possible leave someone you love? I guess my answer is that, if you love them enough, let them go, and if they were to come back for you, the were always yours. If they don’t, they never were. (814 words)
