AS G321: Main Exercise research

           Curtis Parker
What magazines belong to the music
        magazine genre ?
• These magazines are all based on music and have a particular
icon from music as their main image for the magazine
cover, this is similar for most music based magazine covers.
Identify the target audiences for a
         range of magazines using NRS?
It seems like the target audience for the ‘Kerrang’ magazine which is a music magazine
would be readers between the ages of 15-34 and people within the working class are
more likely to buy the magazine.
How do they differ in terms of target
            audience ?
• My magazine and the Kerrang magazine doesn’t really differ
because my magazine is aimed at people between the ages of
15-25 and will be more attractive for the middle class and the
working class. The only difference would be that the main
genre for the magazine because the genre of the Kerrang
magazine is rock where as my magazine is much more
  general.
What is the name of the magazine
that is similar to your target audience
                     ?
• The name of the magazine that is similar to my target
audience is the “Rolling Stone” because this magazine looks at
music in the same way I do and it presents information in a
format that will be similar to my magazine.
Who is their target audience?
• The “Rolling Stone” magazine’s target audience are people
who have a general interest in music because the content
within the magazine is quite broad unless it is an exclusive
  edition.
Who is the publisher? What else do
   they produce? How might your
   product fit into their portfolio?
• The publisher of the ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine is Jann
Wenner, my magazine would fit into her portfolio because
although her genre of music is much more selected my
magazine has a much more general genre on music.
What musical genre/s does it cover?
• The main genre for the Kerrang magazine would be Rock
where as the genre for my magazine is quite broad.
Pick an article from more than one
different music genre and compare and
                 contrast ?
• The two magazines are “Kerrang” and the “Match”, the
‘Match’ is based on sports, mainly football. Where as the
‘Kerrang’ magazine is based on rock music. The ‘Match’ uses a
variety of 1st and 3rd language because some parts of the
magazine want to include the reader directly. Where as the
‘Kerrang’ magazine was solely 3rd and is mainly informing the
reader of the latest stories of the rock world.
What different feature articles are
               included ?
• The different features of he magazine are shown on the cover
of the magazine for example most of the cover lines on the
cove of the ‘Kerrang’ magazine are titles to different features
  in the magazine.
What proportion of pages is given to
     each type of feature article?
• It Depends on how important or how much information there
is on the featured story is, so a story with low importance or
exclusivity might only occupy 1 page where as a story with
high importance might take up 2 pages.
What does the advertising say about
            the audience?
• The advertising gives me the idea of what interests the
audience because the magazine advertises should know their
known quantity or what the readers are interested in before
they stat advertising the magazine. For example people who
are interested in rock music tend to be intrigued by
advertisements that consist of rock bands or rock related
  stories.
What are the consistent features of
that give the magazine a house style?
           (design/layout etc.)
• Some of the features of the magazine that stay consistent are
the font of the Mast head, for example the ‘Kerrang’
magazines font is always bold and italic. The design is always
the same as there is always a picture in the middle of the
cover page with the cover lines surrounding it.
How would you describe the ‘mode of
            address’?
• The mode of address for the ‘Kerrang’ magazine was informal
as the magazine is aimed at young people who are interested
in rock music so it might be better to use words like
  “metallica”.
What proportion of the pages is given
         over to advertising?
• The ‘Kerrang’ magazine does not have any particular pages for
advertisement as the advertising is spread across the
  magazine.
What is the cover price? Does it have a
     website why is this useful?
• There isn’t a cover price for the front cover of the magazine
however it does have a website which updates weekly with
information about present and future magazines to come as
well as the top stories within the magazine.
How frequently is the magazine
               released?
• New editions of the magazine are released weekly with new
stories about information happening within the world of rock.
How is it different from other music
                magazines
• Because some magazines might be more exclusive so it might
be released once a fortnight or even once a month, or some
magazines might be released every few days however those
type of magazines depend hugely on the most exclusive
  stories.

     potential consumers
