2. Great wall of China: The Great Wall is one of the
existing mega structures and the world's longest human-
made structure, stretching over approximately 6,400 km
(4,000 miles) from Shanhai Pass in the east to Lop Nur in
the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern
edge of Inner Mongolia. It is also the largest human-made
structure ever built in terms of surface area and mass. It has
been thus included in the new seven wonders of the world.
3. Christ the Redeemer: In Brazil there was a campaign
Vote no Cristo which had the support of private companies.
Leading corporate sponsors including Banco Bradesco and
Rede Globo spent "millions" of dollars in the effort to have
the statue voted into the top seven. “One morning in June,
Rio de Janeiro residents awoke to a beeping text message on
their cell phones: “Press 4916 and vote for Christ. It’s free!”
After that around 10 million Brazilians had voted in the
contest.
4. Petra : Petra is an archaeological site in Jordan. It is famous
for having many stone structures carved into the rock. The
long-hidden site was revealed to the Western world by the
Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812. Queen
Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan joined the campaign to back
Petra, Jordan's national treasure. Despite Jordan only
having a population of under 7 million people, over 14
million votes were made from the country and was included
in the new seven wonders.
5. Machu Picchu : Machu Picchu was constructed around
1450, at the height of the Inca empire, and was abandoned
less than 100 years later, as the empire collapsed under
Spanish conquest. Although the citadel is located only about
50 miles from Cusco, the Inca capital, it was never found
and destroyed by the Spanish. It is one of the new seven
wonders of the world.
6. Chichen Itza: Chichen Itza is a large pre-Columbian
archaeological site built by the Maya civilization, located in
the northern center of the Yucatan Peninsula, present-day
at Mexico. The pyramid itself was the last, and arguably the
greatest, of all Mayan temples. The people of Mexico voted
for their wonder and included it in the new seven wonders
of the world.
7. Colosseum: The Colosseum or Coliseum, originally the Flavian
Amphitheatre, is a giant amphitheatre in the centre of the
city of Rome, Italy. Originally capable of seating around
50,000 spectators, it was used for gladiatorial contests and
public spectacles. It was built on a site just east of the
Roman Forum, with construction starting between 70 and
72 AD under the emperor Vespasian.
