2. HISTORY
Universal Music was once the music company attached to film
studio Universal Pictures. Its origins go back to the formation of
the American branch of Decca Records in 1934. The Decca
Corporation of England spun American Decca off in 1939. MCA
Inc. bought American Decca in 1962. The present organization
was formed when its parent company Seagram purchased
PolyGram and merged it with Universal Music Group in 1998.
However, the name first appeared in 1996 when MCA Music
Entertainment Group was renamed Universal Music Group.
Universal music was founded in 1934 but was firstly known as
Decca records and then in 1998 UMG came along. UMG is a
company that was founded in the US.
3. BRIEF
• Artists – male artists such as Akon and Ace hood are
also signed to this record label which clearly shows
that this is a successful record label because of the
success the two artists have had in the past years.
Female artists such as Nicki Minaj and Nicole
Scherzninger.
• Branches- UMG have many branches across various
countries such as New York and London and the
head quarters being in Santa Monica, California in
the US.
