Use of Media in the Entertainment Business: Web Browser
Not Quite the Average: An Empirical Study of Web Use Weinreich and Obendorf (Weinreich and Obendorf, 2008) present findings of an effect caused by long term Web usage; issues, solutions and improvements in critical areas. They successfully analyzed and identified different user interfaces associated with Web Browsers and they proposed new and improved browser capabilities which work with all kinds of Web applications.
“Remedies for Common User-Agent Problems” (Dubost, Hass, and Jacobs, 2001) The article details Web Browser possible failures, common user problems, and suggestions on how to improve existing platform browser issues.
“The Revival of Mozilla in the Browser War Against Internet Explorer” (Wang, Wu, and Lin 2005) This paper will explore how the Firefox browser was able to survive in this competitive world. It also states its compatibility, external network, IT standard, reasons for its survival, and predicts future capabilities.
“On a Web Browsing Support System with 3D Visualization” (Yamaguchi, Hattor, Ito, and Shintani, 2004). Based on 3D, this article describes a Web Browser’s bookmark system, history browsing function, and a proposal for a new solution and future innovation which allows a user to browse Web pages more effectively. It also states that Web Browsers are inefficient, since the browser history resides in the URL area and in the title bar, it makes difficult for the user to remember the contents of each Web page.
“Improving Web Browsing on Wireless PDAs Using Thin-Client Computing” (Lai, Nieh, Hohra, Nandikonda, Surana and Varshneya, 2004) This article describes how Web applications are becoming increasingly popular in wireless cell phones; despite slow web browsers. The study in the article explores how thin clients can provide better Web Browsing performance both in speed and ability to precisely display web content. It also proves that thin clients can process and send large quantities of data over a network faster than any other Web Browsers.
“An Empirical Study of RealVideo Performance Across the Internet”   (Wang, Claypool, and Zuo 2001) Due to the increase of computer capability and bandwidth connectivity, video streaming over the internet has increased dramatically. In this paper they explore the empirical study of web video streaming traffic from several different internet servers to different users from different locations. This article also states that that the overall video performance is mostly affected by the end users bandwidth.
“Watching Television Over an IP Network” (Cha, Rodriguez, Crowcroft, Moon, and Amatrian 2008) In this paper an analysis of Internet TV was performed to obtain a clear picture of how people watch Internet TV. Data, such as viewer sessions, end-user location and channel switching from 250,000 households was captured over a six month period. This article proposes a design for a new improved network system which allows for better Internet TV performance.
“Web Browser as an Application Platform” (Taivalsaari, Mikkonen, Ingalls, and Palacz, 2008) The Web Browser was originally designed in early 1990. Since then for better or worse, it has become a widely used platform. This article analyzes Web Browser constraints, challenges, prospects, and suggestions for future improvements.
