D.O. CAMPO DE BORJA
“The Empire of Garnacha”
The vine-growing assets of the “Campo de Borja” D.O. are very rich as regards “garnachas”.
The oldest vineyards of the D.O. date back to 1145 and more than 2,000 of the 5,000 hectares of
Garnacha are between 30 and 50 years old. The production is not high, but wine wise it is held
in high esteem, due to the structural and aromatic complexity they give to the wines.
The rugged mountainous area is delimited by the snow-capped Sierra del Moncayo Mountains
and the vineyard sites that line these are sited between 350 and 700 meters in elevation.

D.O. CAMPO DE BORJA
Campo de Borja received DO in 1980 and it’s considered to be “The Empire of
Garnacha”. The most important productions are young red, rose, crianza and
reserve red wines.
The Borja region has a strong continental climate that features the north-west
wind, the famous “cierzo”.
The soil has good drainage, medium levels of organic matter and is rich in
nutrients.
Vineyards and grape
All stages of viticulture and vinification are carried
out by hand, maximizing the expressiveness and
personality of the final wines which remain totally
true to their “terroir”.
These vines and vineyards are family owned by father
and son for many, many years; the Aibar family.
Garnacha and Syrah are the focus grape varieties.

Garnacha-Syrah
A color of mature cherries. The nose has tones of red Mediterranean fruits
particular to the garnacha. Its brief time in oak also gives aromas of toast and
vanilla. The presence of the Syrah becomes evident by the soft hints jam. In
mouth it is silky. Very easy to understand and enjoy.
A great pair to red meats with red fruit sauces, stews and pastas with red
tomato sauces.

Garnacha
An intense red colour. The aromas are strong and complex with a character of
mature fruits followed by vanilla and coffee tones from the aging in barrel. In
the mouth it is assertive and full with great balance and soft round tannins.

Syrah
This wine has an intense dark red colour with violet tones on the rim.
The aromas are true to the varietal character with hints of fruits of the forest,
well integrated oak and subtle mineral notes which add to the wines
complexity. In the mouth it is round and assertive with a velvet character and
balanced tannins.

PAGOS DEL MONCAYO PRADOS
Syrah
Deep purple colour with aromas of fresh thyme and rosemary permeated from
the neighboring meadows (AKA Prados). On the palate this is a big, impressive
wine, pure ripe fruit: silky, tasty and dense. It is spiced up with soft tones of oak,
balanced with ideal acidity. Superb, long and generous finish.
As an accompaniment to braised lamb, smoky spiced T-Bone steaks or lobster
paella.
We suggest serving at a temperature of 16-18 ° C.

“The 2006 Syrah is deeply colored, bordering on black. It can be
drunk now but should last for well over a decade.
Campo de Borja, located in the northwest province of Zaragoza, 200
miles west of Barcelona, has a winemaking tradition dating back to
the 12th century. However, the D.O. dates only to 1980. Bodegas
Pagos del Moncayo, owned by the Aibar family, has played a
significant role in the rebirth of this once forgotten region. Although
it is only 6 years of age, the estate works exclusively with vines in
excess of 80 years.”
