2. The first question of my survey was chosen to deduce what
gender my magazine should be aimed at. The majority of
people were females at 60% which I expected. However, I
decided to construct my magazine to appeal to the niche
audience instead (in this case males).
3. These results give me an indication as to which age group I should create my
magazine for in particular. Most people seem to be 14-16 years old, yet I
have chosen to go the same route that I did with my first questions and aim
to appeal my magazine to the niche audiences: 16-23 year olds which is
quote similar to the NME’s age demographic.
4. The social media I found to be used most was Facebook. This means that in order to make my
magazine successfully, it must have a Facebook page which is often updated, perhaps with
competitions, videos and links to other websites that cannot be found in the magazine itself as this
will entice people to purchase the magazine. Also given that Twitter and Tumblr were voted
second and third most used it would be wise to set up a Twitter account that is well run and
informative as well as a Tumblr account used to post photos, videos and recordings for fans of the
magazine.
5. The most listened to genre of music was RnB which is expected as pop and RnB are
both mainstream genres as they seem to dominate the charts and most radio stations.
However, I do not want to create a mainstream magazine, instead I wish to focus on a
narrower genre which is why I have chosen rock. Thus, the choices I make regarding
my magazine must by specific to rock music i.e. colours, typography, structure.
6. The majority of participants chose sport as their hobby. This answer means that I can
assume my demographic to be active and energetic. It would thus make sense to have
maybe some sporting store adverts in my magazine. Also, I could give away a voucher
inside the magazine for an online sports store and then by using synergy the sports
website could advertise my magazine on one of their pages. As well as this, I could
feature book and clothing adverts given they were popular hobbies along with sports.
7. The most popular colour chosen was blue. However, personally the idea of a blue colour scheme
did not appeal to me. Thus I chose to go with the second and third most popular colours purple
and green. My colour scheme will be black, purple and green which are two very vibrant
colours that will hopefully appeal to men that enjoy rock music. Also, the idea of these colours
together is quote striking and probably appeals to my demographic who are going through a
rebellious or unruly phase.
8. It seems that the majority of people are only willing to
pay a limit of £2 on a magazine. Thus, it is wise to sell
my magazine around this value as it suits the consumer
well, yet is also a reasonable amount to make a profit
and hopefully create brand identity.
9. The participants mainly chose Drake as their favourite music artist which
again reveals that RnB is the most popular genre. Other artists mentioned
that would better suit my magazine’s genre are You Me At Six, Green Day,
Nirvana and Arctic Monkeys. So by including these artists and others who are
very similar, my magazine will be sure to sell well.
10. The majority of people access music via Youtube. It thus makes sense to have
my magazine advertised on Youtube perhaps on the accounts of artists who
mainly feature in my magazine. Also, by creating a Youtube account under the
name of the magazine we could upload interviews with celebrities, the latest
music videos and other exclusive, original videos. This will help to promote us
online as well as promoting the magazine through traditional media ways such
as: billboards, posters etc.
