Introduction to UoM Conversion in BI 7.0
UoM Conversion is used to translate key figure with unit field into another unit during query execution in BI
7.0. UoM conversion can be done at different level and by different way as per requirement. The document
will focus on InfoObject specific UoM conversion at query execution level.
UoM Conversion is based on Unit conversion types. A combination of source and target unit, quantity
conversion types is used to determine conversion factor, which in turn is used for performing the unit
conversion
Transactions Used
InfoObject Maintenance - RSD1.
InfoProvider maintenance - RSA1.
Creation of quantity conversion type- RSUOM.
Prerequisites:
A Characteristic object should have base UOM and must have UOM. To specify this, go to “Business
Explorer” tab in Info object details. Perform following setting.
Step 1: Select the base unit of measurement.
Step 2: Create Unit of Measure for characteristics.
This will create DSO automatically. Specify name and InfoArea for DSO.
Now this DSO will have following structure.
Key <Material> (i.e InfoObject)
Key <Compounding for InfoObject, if any>
Key <Target Unit of measure >
<Base unit of measure>
<Conversion factor: Counter>
<Conversion factor: Denominator>

This is system generated DSO, Key fields contain InfoObject Material (GCSMATE) and target Unit which is
0UNIT. Data fields are base unit of measure, counter and denominator for getting conversion factor.
Conversion factor is calculated as:
Conversion factor = counter / denominator
In order to perform UOM conversion this DSO must have data. To upload data you need to create
transformation and DTP.
Creating quantity conversion type:
Step1: Transaction RSUOM
Step2: Write name of quantity conversion type and click create or press F5.

Step3: Give long and short description. In conversion factor tab, select the Dynamic determination of
conversion factor using Reference InfoObject as specified. Also give in InfoObject name.
.
Step4: In UoM Tab, source unit of measure and target unit of measure. And then SAVE.
Here target unit of measure is from variable. The variable is created in query designer on characteristics
0UNIT.

Using quantity conversion type in query definition:
Step 1: Open query designer and create query on InfoCube as per requirement having key figure of
type quantity in order to perform quantity conversions.
Step 2: In the properties for the key figure, go to the conversion tab and select the earlier defined
conversion type (GCSUOMT).

Step 3: Now in order to give flexibility to select UoM create variable for target unit. Click on the target
unit variable as shown.
Step4: create variable of processing type user entry. And select in target unit.
