2. Eraser Print
1. Draw at least 10 1x1 inch squares into a piece of drawing paper or in your sketchbook.
2. Draw out some designs in each box - keep them simple.
3. Pick your 5 best designs.
4. Transfer them onto an Art Gum eraser.
5. Using an X-acto knife, cut on the lines of your design. Then use a lino cutter to cut out the
areas that you want to be the colour of the paper and the areas that are left will be the colour
of the ink.
6. On a piece of 9x12 drawing paper, draw out a 1x1 inch grid - LIGHTLY! Erase around the edge
leaving a 1 inch border.
7. Using water based markers, colour in your rubber stamp on the raised areas.
8. Stamp on the grid paper into the squares. Matching the edges of the stamp with the edges of
the squares.
9. Pay attention to colours that you use and the direction of the way you stamp. You may have to
try several different combinations before you get one that you like.
10. Don’t be afraid to make a sample one on larger paper and try different combinations. Maybe
with only 4 or 8 blocks.
11.Experiment with colours.
12. Share stamps with other classmates. Remember you will have 5 different designs to work
with.
13. Turn in one with your designs for a grade and you can turn in a second one for extra credit.
