• Google Glass is a wearable computer with
an optical head-mounted display (OHMD).
• Google Glass displays information in
a smart phone-like hands-free format.
• It mainly concentrates on the social networking,
navigation and communication.
• The video camera senses the environment and
recognizes the objects and people around. The whole
working of the Google glasses depends upon the
user voice commands itself.
PROJECT GLASS
• Project Glass is a research and development program
by Google to develop an augmented reality head-
mounted display (HMD). It is part of the Google X
Lab, which works on other futuristic technologies.
The intended purpose of Project Glass products
would be the hands-free displaying of information
currently available to most smart phone users, and
allowing for interaction with the Internet via natural
language voice commands
TECHNOLOGIES USED
1)WEARABLE COMPUTING:
Wearable computers, also known as body-borne
computers are miniature electronic devices that are worn
by the bearer under, with or on top of clothing. These
computers are especially useful for applications that
require more complex computational support than just
hardware coded logics.
2) VIRTUAL REALITY
Virtual reality is a term that applies to computer-
simulated environments that can simulate physical
presence in places in the real world, as well as in
imaginary worlds. The simulated environment can be
similar to the real world in order to create a life like
experience
3)AUGMENTED REALITY
Augmented reality is a live, direct or indirect, view of
a physical, real-world environment whose elements
are augmented by generated sensory input such as
sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a
more general concept called mediated reality, in
which a view of reality is modified (possibly even
diminished rather than augmented) by a computer.
4) AMBIENT INTELLIGENCE
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) refers to electronic
environments that are sensitive and responsive to
the presence of people. Ambient intelligence is a
vision on the future of consumer electronics,
telecommunications and computing.
5) SMART CLOTHING
Smart clothing is the next generation of apparel. It is
a combination of new fabric technology and digital
technology, which means that the clothing is made
with new signal-transfer fabric technology installed
with digital devices.
6) EYE TAP TECHNOLOGY
An Eye Tap is a device that is worn in front of the
eye that acts as a camera to record the scene
available to the eye as well as a display to
superimpose a computer-generated imagery on the
original scene available to the eye. It has the ability
to augment and mediate the reality the user
perceives.
7) 4G TECHNOLOGY
4G is the fourth generation of cell phone mobile
communications standards. It is a successor of the
third generation (3G) standards. A 4G system
provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access, for
example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to
smart phones, and to other mobile devices.
8) ANDROID OPERATING SYSTEM
Android is a Linux-based operating system for
mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet
computers, developed by Google in conjunction with
the Open Handset Alliance
HARDWARE

MAJOR PARTS
1) VIDEO DISPLAY
It features with the small video display that is used
to display the pop up hands free information.
2) CAMERA
It also has the front facing video camera with which
photos and videos can be taken in a glimpse.
3) SPEAKER
It also has the front facing video camera with which
photos and videos can be taken in a glimpse.
4) BUTTON
It also has the front facing video camera with which
photos and videos can be taken in a glimpse.
5) MICROPHONE
A microphone is also put in, that can take the voice
commands of the wearer of user. This microphone
is also used for having telephonic communication.
WORKING AND INBUILT FEATURES
• Google Glass is tightly packed with
chips, sensors and feedback devices
• There are a few different ways to
control Google Glass. One is by using
the capacitive touch pad along the
right side of the glasses. The touchpad
responds to changes in capacitance,
which is essentially a weak electrostatic field
generated across the screen
• Another way to control Google Glass is
through voice commands. A microphone
on the glasses picks up your voice and the
microprocessor interprets the commands
• The processor in the Explorer version of
Google Glass is from Texas Instruments.
It's an Open Multimedia Applications
Platform chip (OMAP). These chips belong
to a larger classification of microchips
called systems on chip
• The main circuit board also houses a
SanDisk flash drive for memory –
16 gigabytes' worth of storage. A company
called Micron Memory supplied the
dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip.
• The most eye-catching component is the prism-like
screen. When turned off, it appears to be a clear
prism. Viewed from the top, you can just make out a
diagonal line that bisects the prism's width. This
diagonal line is where the prism has an angled layer
that acts as a reflective surface
• Also on board the glasses are a proximity sensor and
an ambient light sensor. These sensors help the
glasses figure out if they are being worn or removed.
You can choose to have your Google Glass go into
sleep mode automatically if you take them off and
wake up again when you put them on. These sensors
can also detect if you take an action such as winking,
which opens up the option to send commands such
as "take a picture" just by giving a big wink.
• One last sensor inside Google Glass is the
InvenSense MPU-9150. This chip is an
inertial sensor, which means it detects
motion.
• The power is provided by a battery housed in a wide
section of the stem. It fits behind your right ear. It's a
lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 2.1 watt-
hours
MAJOR FEATURES
• PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO AND SHARING
You just say a word and Google Glass will take a
picture or record a video. The photos and videos will
be stored on the flash memory of the device, and can
also be shared on social networking websites
• SEND MESSAGE AND GOOGLE SEARCH
Google Glass will show you text messages you
receive and allow you to reply to them via voice
commands. If you are in the habit of Googling things
a lot, you simply need to ask a question and the
device will pull the answer from the internet
• GOOGLE TRANSLATE AND GOOGLE MAPS
Google Glass translate a phrase or sentence from
one language to another. The widely used Google
Maps are integrated into Glass, so that users will be
able to chart the course of their journey or look up
locations or establishments via voice commands.
ADVANTAGES
• Easy to wear and use.
• Sensitive and responsive to the presence of
people.
• Fast access of maps, documents, videos, chats
and much more.
• A new trend for fashion lovers together being an
innovative technology.
• A spectacle based computer to reside directly on
your eyes rather than in your pouch or pocket.
• A useful technology for all kinds of
handicapped/disabled people
DISADVANTAGES
• Can be easily broken or damaged. Though Google
wants these glasses to be as modest as achievable,
they seem to be extremely breakable. Users will have
a tough time taking care of it.
• These glasses show the retrieved data in front of
users eyes so it will be a tough experience for them
since they will focus on that data and will eventually
miss the surroundings that may lead to accidents
while driving.
CONCLUSION
• Google glasses are basically wearable computers that
use the evolving familiar technologies that brings the
sophistication and ease of communication and
information
• It is as futuristic a gadget we’ve seen in recent times.
It’s limited in scope right now, but the future, Google
believes, is bright and the device itself is “incredibly
compelling”

A microphone on the glasses picks up your voice and the microprocessor interprets the commands • The processor in the Explorer version of Google Glass is from Texas Instruments. It's an Open Multimedia Applications Platform chip (OMAP). These chips belong to a larger classification of microchips called systems on chip
  • 21. • The main circuit board also houses a SanDisk flash drive for memory – 16 gigabytes' worth of storage. A company called Micron Memory supplied the dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip. • The most eye-catching component is the prism-like screen. When turned off, it appears to be a clear prism. Viewed from the top, you can just make out a diagonal line that bisects the prism's width. This diagonal line is where the prism has an angled layer that acts as a reflective surface
  • 22. • Also on board the glasses are a proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor. These sensors help the glasses figure out if they are being worn or removed. You can choose to have your Google Glass go into sleep mode automatically if you take them off and wake up again when you put them on. These sensors can also detect if you take an action such as winking, which opens up the option to send commands such as "take a picture" just by giving a big wink.
  • 23. • One last sensor inside Google Glass is the InvenSense MPU-9150. This chip is an inertial sensor, which means it detects motion. • The power is provided by a battery housed in a wide section of the stem. It fits behind your right ear. It's a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 2.1 watt- hours
